Cadence, stride length and GPS

I have found what appears to be a good training tool for Android devices - called RUNNAHOO METRONOME. It is basically a Metranome which allows you to do cadence training by running to the various beats of a metronome - there are many other Apps that also do this. BUT this one also uses the phones GPS - which means that while running to any particular BPM, it is tracking your run and , then knowing how far you have run and in what time, can work out your average stride length. This is of particular interest to me - because although I am able to run at a good (highish) cadence 180BPM+, I suspect that my stride length could be better( longer) . Just going out and running 5ks every second day all the time gets a bit boring for me--so this "tool" will give me an interest for some time , I think.

Very good, I think bpm is really fast, most of my audiofuel stuff is a ground 160 bpm.

Thanks for sharing Bazza. I'll certainly have a look at it. I can't run at the moment so I might as well get clued up on the techie stuff. :)

Right now I am in the middle of preparations for my 14K "Funrun" next month - which I will be doing using run/walk. BUT - after that I am going to do a 10K training programme and I intend to incorporate the use of a metronome in to that, so will use this App for that. I have used Metronomes before quite a bit - especially in the really early part of C25K when I was still trying to figure out what "running" was all about. I very quickly found that I could not run to the VERY SLOW ( to me) cadences/BPM of the music in the NHS Podcasts. What I am intending to do is to try to relate my running paces to various BPM's and after I come up with a better understanding of my paces at different BPMs , I will try to increase those paces just a little bit by trying to increase my stride length. Right now I regulate my pace (easy/fast/faster) by my breathing patterns - but it should also be regulated by cadence/stride length.
