You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.

Hi Doz! In that case I prescribe a _flask_ of tea and 'A Suitable Boy' by Vikram Seth. That should improve matters.

I really hope that you got out for a run today, great for improving our spirits.

And just in case you were thinking of promoting me to Cultural Attache, I really enjoyed Metallica at Glasto (on TV, there was too much mud for me to consider attending).

AncientMum profile image
AncientMumGraduate in reply toMarkyD

That's probably the longest book on my book case too. Flask of tea? Now your talking! :)

dozzer19 profile image

Come, come! Even if you find War and Peace too much like heavy going there surely must be space for The Count of Monte Cristo or The Three Musketeers. make space next time you're on the injury couch.

dozzer19 profile image
dozzer19Graduate in reply toMarkyD

I do prefer The Golden Gate, once you've got the hang of the poetry element. Yorkshire Tea (and water) is the other essential. None of these poncey (sp?) infusions or tisanes. Cultural Attaché, there's a thought. I was pondering Drum Major but NCO MarkyD (Drum Major) doesn't have a good ring to it. Metallica also proves a bit of a problem in the 'cultural' designation. Orff, yes; Metallica, mmm?

Go for it Dozz. Domestic responsibilities surely need delegating to an AdC! ( not volunteering btw, have more than enough domestic responsibilities of my own!) :)

Happy running Sir :)

If there was one he/she/it would have been doing the 'curtains' in the first place.

If I may be so bold as to talk plainly to my superior and hope I am not risking my position as supplier of supplies, Get your shoes on and get out for a run, pronto :)

dozzer19 profile image
dozzer19Graduate in reply tolizziebeth57

Well get you! All bossy so early in the morning. I blame the football. Can we start having matches that end after ninety mins. Does pumpkin patrolling count as exercise?

lizziebeth57 profile image
lizziebeth57Graduate in reply todozzer19

It's not the football. It's the pain of foam rollering, means I am on a short fuse! Pumpkin patrolling is of course one of the best forms of exercise - but you have to run there and back and use any largish pumpkins as weights ;)

Sunny here in Edinburgh so off to patrol my garden and allotment before getting down to some work. Have a great day.

dozzer19 profile image

Foam roller-ing? As in those things to make tress-y hair? I only have four plants out this year - hoping for bumper crop like in '12.

I am with you on the broom handle curtain rails. I have done this many time and find Bettaware cobweb getters are very useful in this regard. I did remove the fluffy bit off the end first mind you, I'm not a complete slob.

A must for all telly-based Wimbledon viewers is a ten gallon teapot and ten pound box o'chocolates

dozzer19 profile image
dozzer19Graduate in reply tomisswobble

Will watch out for Bettaware catalogue for future reference.

Right, get your trail running shoes on (or walking boots) and run or walk up Pen y Ghent in the Yorkshire Dales. When you have done that, pop into the cafe of the same name and order a pint of tea. That should be enough!

dozzer19 profile image
dozzer19Graduate in reply to

There's a prospect! No time today but it's not far so will have to give the walk option a go soon.

Please, take me with you...

It's been a long time since I saw Pan y ghent, let alone the cafe, but I have very fond memories....

Can I bring the Scouts with me? We did something like that in France with the little blighters, and they had a great time....until they got stuck above a lake on a zip wire.

Excellent book and film adaptation.

The stage play was an excellent production. Went child-less, looked odd, surrounded by children appearing very confused by parents' sudden insistence they read the books.

in reply todozzer19

Never seen the stage version, but I know the story creates a certain amount of sniggering from children now. It's only a girl's name!!

dozzer19 profile image
dozzer19Graduate in reply to

Being called any number of names from books of yore could be equally snigger-y, of course. We have surely all read Famous Five.

in reply todozzer19

Not to mention the deliberately named characters in Captain Pugwash!!

I've always had a problem with these double entendres. Surely Ryan cannot have been so sleazy as far back as the fifties.

in reply todozzer19

No, he wasn't. It is an urban myth and came about from a now defunct newspaper suggesting alternative names. It, and the Guardian, were sucessfully sued by the creator for it.

The cabin boy was Jim (not Roger), there is no master Bates, but a master Mates and so on.

Your childhood memories can be fondly remembered secure in the knowledge that someone wasn't being silly.

Yorkshire tea afficionado here too but I only drink the GOLD label as I is posh donchyer know. Yorkshire brack is the best thing out to guzzle with your cuppa! I am Derbyshire mind you so I shouldn't shout too loud about it as I don't know if it's officially allowed. Don't tell anyone will you. Ta ever so

Yes, Tressy was on the premises over in Isengard. Parachuting Action Man was more fun - he didn't last longer than a few lobs out of the window though. If Tressy had asked she may have been allowed to take part in the free-fall but she was too busy having her hair done. Now pull out of back string talking Action Man he was the ultimate.

Oh, I so agree with you! Definitely the coffee and walnut cake rather than the Jammie Dodgers though (I was more of a ginger nut or bourbon myself). Jammie Dodgers always felt more Dandy than Beano... Thanks to a large stone taking a chunk out of my windscreen I had a chance of a lie in this morning, unexpectedly, so took the chance to nip out for an interval session instead. Very invigorating. Much more motivating than dust sheets with our without broom handles!
