ITB Syndrome brings me to an abrupt halt ... for now anyway

Disastrous early end to W9R2 last night ... despite my leg feeling absolutely fine and hence an attempt at a run, I had to stop in agony after 1k and found that I couldn't even walk, so had to call my sister to come and collect me :'( This is the first time I've ever had to stop a run, all previous problems have been aches and pains after running, so I knew it was serious. I hobbled along to our Minor Injuries Unit this morning to have the diagnosis confirmed - Iliotibial Band Syndrome. Lots of RICE and definitely no running for at least 3-6 weeks, and referral to a Physio, plus lots of stretches to do. To say I am totally gutted is an understatement - I was due to run a 5k Race For Life on the 25th, so it looks like I'll be walking it. Is there anyone else who has suffered with ITB and got back into running? I really need to see some light at the end of this dark tunnel!

Can't advise on the ITB and getting back into running after it but so far as the Race for Life is concerned, the race is against cancer so there is nothing wrong, or any reason to be disappointed, with walking it. Good luck with the event and hope you have plenty of sponsorship. Cheers.

Thanks FitCardMo, you're absolutely right and facing up to my problems is nothing compared to those fighting the big fight against cancer.

I can't advise about ITB and getting back to running, but I will say do the exercises you have been given and when you get your physio referral let them know your goal is to get back to running and they should help you achieve that (if possible which I assume it will be).

As for the race for life, no shame in walking you will be there taking part.

I hope your recovery goes well
