A quick question for all the C25K graduates out there; does the novelty wear off?

I completed W5 R2 yesterday and am loving running so far (I'd say bordering on addicted actually!) but wondered if I'll reach the point where it become bored? I'm thinking of signing up for a race to help me remain motivated.

Hi there. I've found it to get more addictive. Once I'd mastered the 5K distance, I worked on getting up top 10K which I've now done. The feeling of achievement is incredible and I believe it's that what keep me going. PLUS, it's such good exercise for your body and general health. Hopefully you will feel the same.

Keep at it!

For me 'No' the novelty has never worn off and I started running nearly 4 years ago. I'm out of action just now with PF in left foot and preying it will sort quickly so I can get back out there. Sounds to me that you have been well and truly smitten by the running bug, well done you are over half way and by the sound of it not likely to stop any time soon :)

I agree. I've found it really addictive and find I am often thinking about the next run with pleasurable anticipation. Still haven't got used to the idea that I can actually do this! There is so much you can play around with - speed, routes, distance, intervals races etc - no need to get bored.

I hope the novelty doesn't wear off! At the moment I bore the pants off of everyone that will listen about running and this programme. I think I am addicted- I even wake up thinking about running! I think if you have goals to aim for and vary your running routes you will just keep on reaping the benefits. x

The novelty does diminish, I believe, but not the underlying buzz of being physically active. The knowledge that I could go and run ten miles tomorrow is extremely satisfying and not something that I would ever want to lose. As far as I am concerned each run is training for the next one and I live for my long weekend runs. Some might consider it a bit "sad", but I love it still, eleven months after starting C25k.

Keep running,keep smiling.

For me...I thought I wouldn't get to week 3, but amazingly I have kept at it and found my true passion in life....I would sign up for a race that suits you to keep you motivated :)

I'm on Week 5 run 2 and loving it, too. I've signed up for a Park Run which I aim to do the first week in June to mark my completion of couch25k. I think being part of something and running with other people will keep me motivated and enjoying it.

It's never worn off for me. Each run is different with the changing seasons.

Try a variety of routes ~ some town, some country; some hilly, some flat; and if you can, try a cliff-top run in the spring and early summer. I did it a couple of years ago on a stunning morning and it was much, much better than I could ever have imagined it to be ~ and I have a very good imagination.

Hmm, I graduated last week and I have struggled this week without the direction of the podcasts. I have downloaded some post 5k podcasts now so hope it goes a bit better motivation wise next week.
