Anyone interested in joining my quest. (Goal setting really)

Hi there to all my fellow forumers

I would like to propose a quest for those of us who have graduated or about to graduate

I realise that I am not totally alone on the motivational front post Laura. I am still running three times a week but feel I am lacking the sense of achievement as my main goal is a beginners triathlon next year. I feel I need something more current to work towards.

Also with Christmas and holidays coming up I think I need some structure to keep me on my path.

My proposal is open to anyone.

What I am suggesting is that we virtually sign up on this post to reach a specific goal by the weekend of 14/15 December. The goal can be totally personal (running related obviously)

My goal is to do the park run 5km on the Saturday

It could be a distance or a time and it doesn't matter what it is. The point is that you make it something you have to work towards.

I propose that every Monday we start a link for everyone to talk about how they are getting on. That way we do not take too much of the forum up, which is so good at helping people through the program.

Also a name for the quest would be useful so it is easy to see the weekly post.

Please post below if you think it is something you might be interested in

Many thanks for your time.

Rfc x

That is a great idea. I would like to run 22 min 5km. My PB is currently 23 mins, so that is going to be difficult but I will go for it.

Fantastic. Thanks for getting the ball rolling.

Why not - will go for running my first HM distance by 14th/15th December.

Jingle bells, running tells, beats the winter blues away.

Sign up here if you need a steer after completing C25k...

Brilliant. Thanks for joining. Love the jingle.

Great idea, I think I need to push myself just a lttle bit more so I'm going to aim for completing 4 more parkruns and to run 5k in 35 mins. My current PB is 38:18. I know this will be a challenge for me but I will do me best.

I really like this idea. I'm a bit rudderless at the moment. I haven't been able to start back running since I injured my ankle so it's not really suitable at the moment but I'd love you to start another one when this one is finished. If I can get back running in the next 2 weeks (ankle permitting) I'd like to be a late joiner to this one.

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply to waletta

Of course you can join the next one. How about this one your quest is to try and remain positive as your ankle heals and promise yourself not to overdo things while you recover. Join in with us.

I think this whole idea is inspirational Rfc, particularly given the time of year. Thanks for your encouragement & yes the positivity's a good idea too -I haven't been very positive about anything recently- missing the running high. I'll take up that challenge & if I still have problems in the next 2 weeks, I'll seek medical help to know which is the best way to go. Thanks again. :)

Hi RFC,

Great idea - I'm in!

My goal is to do my first parkrun and get as close to 30 minutes as I can (currently around 36 mins ).

Same as me but mines is just to do 5k. Welcome

My goal is to complete a bridge to 10k programme (or rather, run for an hour which may or may not be 10k). I'd just completed week one when I got a cold which has really affected my ability to breathe when sitting let alone when running, so it'll be a bit of a challenge to get back to where I was AND finish the programme - maybe I need until Christmas???

Great fantastic goal but please promise you will look after yourself in recovery as well. I think by the response there will be others too after this one. Welcome

I'm training for a 10k race in April and I would like to achieve my 10k distance by then. I'm currently at 8k so it's within reach so I may make it before then but I will be disappointed with myself if I haven't reached it by the 14th!

15th is my daughter's first birthday so that feels like a great weekend to set a goal for!!!!

I graduated 2 weeks ago and have entered a half marathon in May. I've just started a 5k-10k 6 week plan, so like runningnearBeirut my aim will be to run for 60 minutes. I think 10k might be difficult (a bit like 5k in 30 mintes which still eludes me).

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply to Jennyh543

I am not far from graduation it seems like a big leap to 10k to me. I suppose its relevant to how you found the program. If its achievable for you go for it. If your prone to repeating weeks like me maybe give yourself a time or distance to work to. Just an thought as you said it. Might be difficult. Welcome onboard

Jennyh543 profile image

Yes, true. I am working on increasing time running but not speed - quite happy plodding.

It would be easy to get an injury in the quest to hit my goal, so I also pledge to look after myself, watch out for niggles and rest!

Hi, what a great idea. I have 2 goals. First to get to 10km and the second to do 5 km in 30 mins. At 8 km at the moment and 33:30 mins for 5 km. Hoping I can achieve both. Thanks.

ok - I think I am up for this. My only hesitation is - 'can i do it'. So along with vikiicats i have two goals - deep breath - 10k in an hour and up my distance to 7 miles. I will add a third lose some weight to make me a better runner. I would like to be closer to 11stone that 12 stone.

crikey - had no idea what I was going to type- and look what trouble it is going to get me into. But there I have said it out loud now :-)

Glad I caught this post, what a great idea! I would love to join the Xmas quest and my main goal is to be able to run for 40 minutes. I can do 36.5 now. My second goal is to run 5 k in 34 minutes. It takes me the 36.5 at the moment. My third goal is to join in the local park run. Looking forward to getting together with everyone on this. Thanks :)

I'm up for this, I need a bit of a goal, I just can't decide what my goal could be!! I like the idea of being able to run for a long time but don't have time for that, the longest time I've managed to do lately is about 20mins due to being busy, I also like the idea of sorting my speed out and seeing if I can get faster.. Tough but I may have just decided!!

The weekly updates will also mean I will have to be getting out each week! Good plan!

Great idea, count me in! Just graduated last week and am managing just under 4k so my goal is to manage 5k. A little more weight loss would be good too but that might be a step too far given the seasonal temptations :)

Gold luck everyone, look forward to reading all your posts

I would like to join too. I have two major goals; to run at least 3 times a week regularly as I am not doing very well at the moment and to do a parkrun. The third goal would be to increase my distance as I would like to build up to 10k but as I am not running regularly at the moment I need to get that sorted first! Thank you for the encouragement and inspiration. :)

I LOVE this idea. I've just graduated a week ago so feel like I'm out in the scary world of running alone now. I really love my own music but do miss Laura so this is perfect for me.

I've already set my goals in my head but its great to share them here too.

My main goal is to continue running 3 x a week throughout deepest darkest winter! I'm worried I'll find it easier to skip without a specific program to follow.

My second is to increase my distance over 30 mins. I don't think 5k is a viable goal for me. At the moment I'd be happy to be doing 4. Plodding along at 3.5, I think 4 is a lot more realistic.

Thanks again though for this. You've proved again why I love this forum! :)

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply to Hezzabelle

Fantastic welcome on board. I am slightly worried that I might of bitten of more than I can chew. I am plodding at 3.5 too. I am struggling at the end of a 3.5 run as it is .

Hezzabelle profile image
HezzabelleGraduate

Thank god its not just me. I wasn't sure that 3.5k in 30 mins wasn't a bit pants. But it really is the best my tiny legs can do. I'm hoping a few more weeks will increase my stamina and I can push it further. I'd be really happy with 4 to 4.5.

Good luck with your parkrun goal too! You're braver than me.

Hi can I join too? I've been feeling a bit directionless since I graduated & need something new to focus on. This could be just the challenge I need. My goal is to run 5K - I don't mind how long it takes me, just to reach the distance would be great.

Thanks for starting this.

Hi Rfc....its a great idea , please count me in too :)

I have run 5K a couple of times ..in around 45 minutes ,but not lately as I've just returned from a trip to England where I managed two runs before I succumbed to one cold / cough right on the tail end of another ,so eased my way back into it this week ....did three runs since last Sunday,1x30 mins and 2x35 mins but only covered around 3.3km on the first and 3.7 kms on the last two.

I'd gone just two and a half weeks without running and surprised myself at how hard I found it to get back into .

Just like Scipio's comment, I too have felt a bit directionless since graduation, but I'm determined to keep on regardless.

To have your little group spurring me on would be a great incentive.

Thanks for coming up with this ...it feels like its come just at the right time for me :) Happy weekend x

This is a great idea RFC! I have just completed my first park run today in just over 31 mins. The Parkrun organisers have a 5k JingleJog organised for 15th Dec so I will enter that and aim for 30 mins! It raises money, involves being social with other runners and probably involves wearing a Santa hat - lots of good things!

So my target is keep park running, and get as close as poss to 30mins 5k and be sociable with other runners on 15th!

This is a brilliant idea and I hope I'm not too late to join in!

I hope/plan to graduate in 2 weeks time (week 8 run 1 tomorrow) and this would be just the push I need to carry on beyond that. Some time ago I set myself a goal to do a 5 km Park Run, but mid December would be a bit too soon for me as I REALLY don't want to be last, so am aiming to do that by the end of January.

Therefore, I think my aim here will be to run 5 km as I won't be doing that distance when I graduate. I really look forward to the support we'll give each other and look forward to achieving this!

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply to KAYDIE

Of course your not to late to join. Please promise that you will not push yourself faster than you need to finish. The most Important thing about the site is that the program comes first but I do understand the need to have a goal post graduation. Welcome onboard

Hi Rfc, I would love to join in with this but I'm not quite sure where to set my goal as I'm just back from serious asthma issues and although I've just started back again I'm only at the 5-min stage. Realistically, I won't be back up to 5k by the 14th Dec but how about I'll be running for 20 consecutive minutes by then? Eeek!
