I am in a sulk because it seems I ran too slowly and hurt myself.
I posted about my first Stepping Stone run last week and how I found the tempo slow and unnatural, for me at least. Anyway I obviously did something wrong trying to alter my stride length etc and pulled a muscle in my calf - thought I was OK yesterday (with some residual stiffness) so headed off to the park... but after 10 minutes (at my own pace) it started hurting again in a 'stop right now' way on an uphill section, so I did the sensible thing and abandoned the run. Felt so deflated and my calf's still quite sore and stiff today, especially going up and down stairs.
I know I just have to wait till it's better now and be patient, but it's so frustrating! I just graduated and am full of new runner's zeal.
Whinge Endeth.

Hey TT, that's so unfortunate. Glad you had the good sense to stop. I'll try to learn from your experience (I'm usually more stubborn than smart), seeing as how we are both new grads. I'm hoping you bounce back quickly -- but take care you don't rush back. When those stairs feel okay, you'll be okay, I would think. Don't feel too discouraged. Maybe just walking for a half hour at the speed that feels comfortable will keep you in the pattern. Keep us posted on your repair and return. Best wishes for upbeat thoughts, meanwhile!
Thanks OhC. And congratulations on that shiny new grey badge! It's really tempting to rush things - leg's improving but still not quite right and I am listening carefully to what it's telling me - so to speak! There's a lot to learn with this running thing...
Poor Turbo ;0( I hope you are fighting fit really soon :0)
Sorry to hear about your injury. It takes me back to the first time I did one of the c25k+ podcasts and tried to go faster by lengthening my stride. The result was an extremely painful top-of-foot (don't know the correct anatomical term) which took me out of the game for 3 weeks. I agree about the unnatural pace as well - I find it really difficult to run at Laura's introductory 150bpm so just do my own thing, to be honest. I am 5'2" and have short legs, so you'd think that would work for me, but it doesn't.
Totally understand about the whingeing but you're doing the best thing by resting it. I hope it gets better very soon.
Eeee, three weeks... that must have been SO frustrating. I'm hoping it's not that long with me. Did you think it was caused by hitting the ground harder and more through your heels when trying to lengthen your stride? That's my theory at least. I think the lesson is if it instinctively doesn't feel right, it probably isn't right...
