Please can anyone recommend a watch to calculate calories used/distance travelled and speed for when I'm out running. Ideally it won't cost the earth too!

You could look at the garmins, I'd advise against the old 110 and 210 (if still available). Sent my 210 back because it's unreliable, my mates 110 is incredibly bad at satellite locks, but trust are old now.

The forerunner 10 will track your time and distance. It will also give you a calorie burn as well, but that's based on the weight you've entered on the garmin site and the distance you've run rather than your heart rate. I don't know how accurate the calorie count is. It retails at just under £100, but mine came 'free' courtesy of tesco club card vouchers, someone on here got one for £80 a couple of weeks ago. And you get to choose which colour you want too.

I would strongly recommend a Garmin 610. I had the same problem that you have and gave it a lot of thought before buying the Garmin as it was almost £100, but it is all worth it. I bought it as my Graduation present but it did come few days before I graduated. This is one of my favourite things that I wear when I run. I got the HRM (Heart Rate Monitor) too but I never used it, HRM came with it anyway so I got it with me in the box!

Good luck to you for your running!!

Thank to you all for your advice, there's so many different types out there it's really hard to know what to go for so great to have your suggestions. I like the idea of buying one as a graduation present so may wait a little longer and hope that I get to the end of Week 9!

Hi Sofaqueen, I splurged on a Garmin Forerunner 10 during week 8 and am so delighted I did. Tracking my runs, distance, times etc gave me the boost I needed so close to graduation. Like you, I'd thought of buying it as a graduation present but then decided that I deserved the treat having succeeded so far. And so do you! And I'm now a stat junkie...

Does anyone know if the Garmins work outside of UK? Or are they made for tracking in UK only?

I am thinking of getting one for my birthday and spend about 70% of my time in UAE and remainder in UK.

Thank you for any replies x

The gains should track anywhere, you might not see maps in connect for everywhere though
