I'm new here. First time poster on COPD. I'm a retired nurse who certainly knew smoking was not a good choice. Now on low dose steroid which really seems to help me. Just now trying to learn a new way to live. Thanks.

Hello Sissy-sue and welcome to the group!!
Thanks, it's kinda hard to change, but I intend on giving it a good try.
My dr really didn't like the idea of routine steroids because of side effects. To be able to get up and wash dishes, which I really hate, was worth it it to me. I was almost unable to do anything. So far there have no side effects that has convinced me to stop them. Of course everyone is different, but being an old nurse, I'm kind hard headed.
Wondering why my Dr doesn't want to do daily steroids?
I am 70 years old, have been diagnosed since 2001, was on steroids for a while - 3 of them. I had to quit because they made me cough so bad. I do not take any medication now, and I haven't for several years. I do better without it, but I have no doctor as he "couldn't do anything else" for me without the meds. I take supplements, eat healthy and exercise when I can. We take one day at a time, slow and easy sometimes. I refuse to have bad days. Every day I wake up breathing is a good day. I use oxygen when I need it, but tell my old lungs they need to function without when possible. I also use the One Minute Cure with hydrogen peroxide. Probably not for everyone, but what do I have to lose? Seems to work for me. Breathe easy my friend.
Howdy I'm joan, just had my second stay in the hospital for copd. They sent me home with oxygen and I am not going to get depended on it but seems like I'm doing less everyday and I can't stand not being able to do things.
