I've never used a forum like this before. I'm 52, quit smoking 8 months ago. Trying to lose that weight now and I feel unsure about my breathing. Not on O2 but nebulizer and steroids.

Some nebulizers have negatve interactions with some PD Meds.. Recommend that both doctors understand what is going on with others meds, especially, anticipated changes. Will be up to you to make sure this happens. Anyhow, recommend you your always check the RXr drugs you take for possible interactions.

Many congratulations on beating the demon weed - not easy but well worth the fight. Be aware that taking steroids can increase appetite and you may need to watch what you eat a little more closely. Have carrot, etc handy as snacks. Good luck.

Hello Darob63 and welcome to the group. Congrats on stopping the smoking. Stay strong one day or hour at a time. This is the biggest thing you can do for yourself now! I too am new to this site and using forums. This site seems pretty straight forward for looking up topics and following timelines.

I agree with what others mentioned earlier about meds. I have been trying to learn all I can about my meds, both pros and cons. Diet and exercise are a big factor with copd which I still fall short on both. Even with my moderate copd I struggle in even just getting out and walking some every day due to my shortness of breath.

The one thing I can offer is to learn about belly breathing, or pursed lip breathing. This has been good to use when I get winded with light exertion. And it also helps to calm my body and breathing. I hope some of this helps.

Talk to your doctor and gather as much information as you can. You just can't learn enough about COPD. Diet, stress, air quality, humidity, vitamins, homeopathic treatments. Everything you learn will help you, help your doctor. I suggest keeping a short diary of your day. That way when you have a bad day or episode, you can look back and see what may have triggered it. I have my husband weigh himself everyday and take his BP. When he loses weight and BP goes up, I know a breathing episode is not far behind. He has been in the hospital 3 times in 3 months with Pneumonia. We now know the signs and he has Predisone to take as soon as the signs start. Good luck .
