Smell bag and sloppy poo

Just out of hospital and now have a bag that smells and has a thick runny poo coming out all the time what do I do

Doesn't sound great when you put it that way.

If you are getting smells usually its an indicator of a leak. (stating the obvious).

If your poo smells generally awful and sour then that is normal. You have a smelly alarm too a leak in this case, which is a good thing because you don't want someone telling you-you have a leak.

There are products you can buy to firm up the discharge that goes into your bag as well as smell maskers which you can plop in, or powder your bag with. Ask Dr Google.

I've read tick tacks work however have not tried them.

Good luck with it all. It probably does not look so rosy now but you get over it, ( The bag I mean) and then you get on with it as you become more expert at it.

When I first had my stoma, 4 years ago. Mine was the same, very runny and absolutely stunk. It was that bad my family told me that I had to use the downstairs loo only. They were only joking, but they never use it. I was told it would take a few weeks for things to settle down. Yeah it's a pain, but they were right. I never thought I would be able to cope with a stoma, but it becomes normal and yes I still hate it but you learn to live with it. If you need advice speak to your stoma nurse, they can recommend products to help. Drops you put in your bag to mask the smell and sachets to set the sloppiness.

Hi Dogbot here I am still in hospital trying to leave but my poo 💩 is to runny and to much I have been told I think the normal one’s eating marshmallows,wine gums,jelly baby’s,crisps and drinking Lucozade sport not the diet one helps but I have only had my ileostomy bag For two week’s and I am desperately trying to slow it down so they will let me out good luck 😉

Hi ,I know the feeling my family tell me it stinks when emptying my bag , I now use a spray that u put down toilet before emptying , get it in home bargains

You don’t have the right bags. Mind never smells and no poop comes out. I use Coloplast Sensura Mio. Pouch and separate wafer
