GP not sure what I’ve got?

Over the past eight years I’ve had very bad diarrhoea to the point of liquid content. GP said it was IBS but I was not too sure, as the medication did not help. I decided to do a food diary & noticed I was found to be lactose intolerant. I informed my GP who advised me that this is all what they would of had me done to confirm any food issues with my gut.

The diarrhoea flared up again with bloating, wind, screaming on the toilet & wanting to throw up, when bowels opened followed by shaking afterward with aggressive lower abdomen pain as bad as child birth and then fatigue leaving me bed ridden for at least 48hrs. GP has done blood tests accused me of over excessively drinking due to having a liver issues on my blood results! I can’t drink alcohol due to a kidney problem I told him from my late 20’s. He then accused me of over eating, due to being overweight & a BMI of 36, I pointed out I have a under active thyroid for the past 25yrs. I did point out that my sister did have Colon Cancer. Ok we will do more tests he now says!

I know you will think we’ll change your GP but there are only 2 GP surgeries in my town & I work at the other so I can’t register there. This is the issue with the NHS in the UK, you are restricted to GP surgeries in the area where you live. Unless you can afford to go private but I don’t earn enough on the NHS to do that.

I’m now waiting to see a gastroenterologist as I’ve had to push for this with my GP but due to Covid-19 I do not know how long this will take before I’m seen.

Gail1968, thanks for posting and I'm so sorry to hear about your pain and experience with your GP. Hopefully working directly with the gastroenterologist and not the GP will lead to finding some answers and getting you relief. Please keep pushing for that appointment with the gastroenterologist and let us know what the outcome is. Hang in there, we're here for you.
