Crunchy bones in neck, wrists and ank... - Charcot-Marie-Too...
Crunchy bones in neck, wrists and ankles since a teenaget. Anybody with charcot-marie-tooth disease had this ?
Hi crunchiebones, do you have any other symptoms of CMT? A list of a few can be found here:
Bad joints can be a result of CMT, especially in the hip (leading to arthritis), so it's worth getting that checked as soon as possible because malformed sockets can be quickly fixed, whereas if they are left unchecked, a full joint replacement may be required.
Some quick checks your doctor can do is to check for reflexes in your arms and legs. If they are present, that's a good sign, but if they are subdued, or non-existent, that'll be an indication of CMT. Also, given your age, if you have CMT you may be experiencing noticeable muscle loss - let the doctor know this and see what their professional opinion is.
Good luck, lets hope it's just stiff joints!
thank you yes i have also noticed in the last few years my grip is rubbish. i will certainly look into it
I had hand tremors as a child and the so called growing pains.( a relentless leg ache) I have a slightly crunchy neck. I also was fobbed by over 8 GP's . Until I insisted on an MRI and by a roundabout route ended up with a blood test and CMT Type 1 diagnosis. Have your GP test your reflex's, if their not present that's a clue. Do you have the muscle between your thumb and the next finger? , if not that's another give away.
