Texting while in Surgery?
3% reporting that they visited social networking sites during procedures takes the biscuit? Are they doing this at the table? Many distractions noted, but how sterile are personal phones?
Never thought about surgical fires before - Is nowhere safe? Shudder! X
I can't open the link but surgical fires reminded me of a colleague many years ago who had a minor op on her hand involving a general anaesthetic. Rather foolishly she decided to sneak a smoke in the bathroom. In her groggy state she accidentally set her inflammable bandages on fire and rushed out screaming for help. Her ward companion was a lady with dementia who wasn't taken too seriously at the nurse's station when she reported a lady as 'being on fire'. Thankfully she managed to plunge it into water and put out the flames but her day surgery turned into a much longer stay for skin grafts on her hand.
Yes I'm ashamed to say I did laugh! (but only when I realised she wasn't badly hurt). The dangers of illicit post operative smoking!

Boogles the mind...
If 3% actually ADMIT they have accessed social media while in surgery, what is the actual number? Double?
My fear is IV pump timing errors... but I noticed recently that one nurse sets it and a second nurse comes along and verifies the settings... this is new...
