was negative after 8 days for 2 days then have what I am pretty sure is a covid rebound. It is day 14 and am still very positive on a test. How long do most with Cll test positive?

I don’t know. I just tested negative for the second day and am hoping I don’t get the rebound. How do you feel?

The rebound after paxlovid has made me a bit more snuffy and have had more coughing (like my normal colds) but am feeling okay. Not as bad as some of my colds but worse than during the period I was taking paxlovid when I barely had symptoms during the first 8 days.

How do you know that it is rebound and not reinfection? Is there away to tell?

It’s pretty common to have a rebound after taking Paxlovid. It’s the most likely scenario.

Ah, so it isn't something determined by a doctor, like is it A or is it B. No clear demarcation. Good to know.

I decided to wear a mask around the house and stop isolating. I am pretty sure I am not shedding germ after 14 days since I got this. I coughed a couple of times today and blew my nose once. I do hope I get a negative test but I will stop worrying about it soon. I have read some people can test positive for days on end.

I got covid for the first time in June. It felt like a cold. Then I got a text from a friend 3 days later that she tested positive for covid & that I needed to test. I didn't get Paxlovid cuz I was afraid of rebounding. I felt ok & isolated for 5 days as instructed by my GP. She said not to retest cuz I could be positive for weeks. I felt fine but had laryngitis for 3 weeks following. My voice is the first to go when I get sick. Don't bother retesting.

Same happened to me. I have had Covid twice since and didn’t take Paxlovid. I was told having a very low immunity the recovery takes longer.

Very common to have a rebound after Paxlovid. Your pattern of negative/positive is very similar to how mine was. It’s a double edged sword. If you feel ok then you’re unlikely to be infectious after this length of time so life can go on. Most ‘healthy’ people don’t think twice about Covid now or spreading it. I think it took a few weeks for me to test negative and feel better. Hopefully, it won’t be much longer.

Thx all for your experiences. I wondered if the CLL might prolong the positivity when testing.

I did not take Paxlovid (history of blood clots and oncologist was concerned about lowering my dose of Eliquis). I finally tested negative on day 20, although symptoms had resolved after two weeks. Wishing you well.

I had COVID in October 2022. At that time, I was able to get bebtilovimab treatment, and I tested positive for 21 days. I had also had evusheld the previous month. Even with all the passive antibodies in my system, it still took weeks to clear the virus. As background, it was 13 months since my last obinutuzumab infusion.

People with compromised immune systems take longer to clear the virus, up to 20 days or more.

More from CDC.

* People with moderate
 or severe
 COVID-19 should isolate through at least day 10. Those with severe COVID-19 may remain infectious beyond 10 days and may need to extend isolation for up to 20 days.

* People who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should isolate through at least day 20. Use of serial testing and consultation with an infectious disease specialist is recommended in these patients prior to ending isolation.
