Calquence & Paxlovid?

Well it was bound to happen - couldn't avoid covid forever! I am on acalabrutinib and being told I should get Paxlovid intravenously to avoid interupting acalabrutinib. Anyone else have experience with this? Seems weird that I have to stop Calquence if I take Paxlovid orally but not intravenously...but what do I know!

I didn’t think there was an IV form of Paxlovid. It is made up of two tablets, one of which enhances the action of the other by preventing the body from breaking it down - hence the CYP3A inhibitor issue potentially affecting other drugs eg Acalabrutinib and Venetoclax

Sotrovimab is a single infusion for those who can’t receive Paxlovid

Molnupriavir is an oral medication

Remdesavir is a course of infusions over five days if you have Covid

this has happened to us twice now. since Paxlovid is only a 3-4 day course of treatment we found that there is no need to pause your Calquence. Advice from MD Anderson.

Drugs.com suggests otherwise. I wonder if the length of time taking Acalabrutinib makes a difference.

I never knew there was an IV Paxlovid

Chatgbt says there is no IV form of Paxlovd for what that's worth.

My specialist advised me to stop taking zanubrutinib while taking Paxlovid.

I stopped taking acalbrutinib while on paxlovid, as the combo was causing irregular heartbeat.

Hello all. I am in hospital getting an antiviral infusion right now. Turns out it is something called remdesivir. Going to see if I can also get an antinauseant because I haven't been able to eat for 3 days and am throwing up water, concerned about dehydration as I also have a fever. Did anyone else here get sick to their stomach with covid? I didn't know it could cause that symptom!

Thanks for clarifying that you are receiving remdesivir, not paxlovid, to help you overcome your Covid infection. There shouldn't be the need to cease acalabrutinib/Calquence, because it doesn't work by extending the period of high blood serum concentration of the antiviral and some other drugs, increasing the risk of side effects as paxlovid can do. drugs.com/interactions-chec... reports;

"Interactions between your drugs

No drug ⬌ drug interactions were found between the drugs in your list. However, this does not necessarily mean no drug interactions exist. Always consult your healthcare provider."

It is very important that you address your valid concerns about dehydration. You should be able to be prescribed an antiemetic. It's important to take it to stay on top of the symptoms; taking it after they occur doesn't work as well - you may not even be able to keep the antiemetic down.

I hope the remdesivir soon makes you feel far more human :)

Thank you!! Today was my 2nd infusion and it has improved my symptoms. Had a chest xray out of an abundance of caution as I already have interstitial lung scarring from chronic childhood bronchitis and asthma. Lungs are clear, thank goodness. They gave me an antinauseant intravenously and I just had some soup, hope it stays down!

Hello from the south Pacific

My haematologist stopped my BTK (Ibrutinib) completely while I was in hospital having my IV Remdesivir infusions - ? something to do with kidney function? I went back onto Ibrutinib 2 days after the infusions were completed . Good luck with getting back to eating and feeling better - I had IV nausea meds first in the ambulance then while in hospital but it all settled.

😊

I am feeling better now, thank you! One of the nurses did say that remdesivir can be hard on kidney function but I'm okay in that department so we didn't stop the BTKs. I'm so grateful I was able to get antivirals!
