Was Just Approved For A Grant To Pay For My Monthly Insurance Premiums.

I've always known the Leukemia Lymphoma Society offered grants for copay assistance, but just recently discovered the grants can also be used to pay for insurance premiums.

My insurance premiums are currently $400 per month. The grant maximum is $4,500. This will cover nearly an entire year of insurance premiums for me, I am so thankful. The online application is automated. I was approved seconds after applying and the funds can be used immediately.

Also, there is something called a 90-day look-back, I searched their website to see what it means, but couldn't find any thing. I think it may mean you can also submit past receipts up to 90 days ago and be reimbursed for them as well. Don't quote me on that, I'm going to contact LLS tomorrow to verify. Here is the link to learn more about it. Unfortunately, it's only limited to those residing in the U.S.

A look-back typically means they look at income up to that amount of time prior to your application (if it is an income-based grant). In this case they would look at your income up to 90 days prior.

I also receive a grant And It means exactly what you thought. You can submit past receipts up to 90 days ago and be reimbursed for them as well.

This is true. Although amounts reimbursed from the past 90 days do count against your $4800.

Also, if you get a bill 90 days after your grant expires you can still submit it if you still have funds left. Sometimes the bills take a long time even though the medical service was within your LLS coverage period.

They lowered the amount of the grants to $4500 from $8000 this year probably because Medicare lowered the max annual copay to around $ 3500 . This is good because now they will be able to give the grants to more patient before they run out of money, which they always have.

Yes this has been incredible for me in my early months since being diagnosed! My premiums are $460/mo right now (and cover no bloodwork 🤬), so this is super important. I'm hoping it is easy to renew/re-apply each year.

Reapplying is pretty much the same thing as applying the first time. The problem they run out of money and can go months without money, during which they will not accept applications ( new or repeated) for grants. If that happens all you can do is check their website often to see if they got some new money and jump on while you can. Then hope the look back will cover the time you were without.

Everyone, thank you so much for all of your responses. I can see that many of you already are aware of the ability to use the LLS Copay Grant to cover monthly insurance premiums. And, thank you so much for clarifying what 90-day-look-back is. 🙂
