I am on day 20 of this cold that just doesn’t seem to go away. Not Covid, grateful for that but the amount of mucus I produce is never ending. Not running a fever but just tired of the congestion and coughing. Is there any use in seeing my doctor considering I am probably just dealing with an ordinary cold. I am in treatment and this is the first time I have been sick for this long. I was barely sick of Covid for like 5 days, also when I was in treatment . Any advice?

Everlasting Cold
If you’re in treatment and producing copious amounts of mucous (especially if it’s a different colour other than white or clear), you may now have a bacterial infection and need to consult your doc. After a bad Covid episode, I had to do this and antibiotics quickly assisted the ongoing symptoms. My husband (non CLL), is still coughing weeks after having Covid and this seems to be a common pattern presently. Somebody called it the 100 day cough! 😮💨
When we are immune compromised, it’s worth checking out these persistent infections.
Best wishes,
Newdawn
That’s too long to be suffering without medical advice. I do not keep stuff to myself like this & especially now in treatment. Even if it appears to be the run of the mill garden variety cold because there is too mich stuff going around.
My Sinusitis of 6 weeks pushed me into stage 4 & treatment & I seen at least 3 doctors & been on 2 different antibiotics & steroids. These ‘colds’ will trigger my Asthma & all my underlying issues like Costal Chronditis so I hit it hard with Natural Remedies which work for me but if it persist it gets dealt with by a prescription. Even if just cough medicine with codeine, decongestant, nebulizer but something.
GODSPEED 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I had a viral
Infection for 3 weeks coughing and yellow mucus coming out of my nose, seems to be a lot of folk having this, hope you feel better soon.🙏
You have my sympathy. I have had cold and cough symptoms since last September - over four months. My phlegm is pale yellow.
I had it checked out as I’m in treatment too (VR). I started with a common cold, Rhinovirus, detected on a swab. When the cough lasted six weeks I had a chest x-ray, which was clear.
My consultant is monitoring, but thinks that on treatment it just takes a long time to get over illnesses as our immunity levels are so low.
Hi Graham ... I've been on w&w since 2006 and have had this cold since Dec 7th, it seems to be a bit better now, but I've said that before.
I seen my Consultant a few weeks ago, and he put it down to my low immunity level ... on the plus side, he also said that my blood count was 2.5% lower than last year, in fact it is back to where it was in 2018 ...
To balance things, my two sons have been on/off with this cold as long as I have been ... Mrs Ygtgo on the other hand has had not so much as a sniff ... I asked her if she knew about typhoid Mary ...

Hi Alex, my husband has CLL, no treatment, watch and wait now for about 5 years and he too is plagued by a cough and loads of clear mucas for many months now...... he won't go see the doctor, in all other respects he is fit and active at 84 and no one believes his age so in every other respect he is doing well so will watch the answers to your question with interest. He did test positive for Covid at the start of the pandemic and took a course of tablets, I forget the name, but were specifically for the immune compromised.
I have this cold and I'm on day 13 going back to work today but still not right. And yes not COVID but like you this has been far worse of the 3 maybe four times I have had COVID couple of days then fine . This has completely knocked the crap out of me as you say neverending mucus and cough gone off my food etc . It's a horrible bug loads seem to have it . I have improved but as I have said like you its still there. My advice to anyone in UK who see someone coughing,,run lol 🤣 you really don't want this bug
I had this too for 6 weeks, didn’t show up on any tests until about week 4 when it turned bacterial in my ears, couldn’t hear anything and I finally got antibiotics which cleared it.
one bit of advice. Buy an oximeter. Keep it at home. Check your oxygen levels if you become substantially worse. My husbands cold seemed to be clearing when he suddenly became unwell. It was only when I checked his oxygen levels that we knew he was deteriorating. Ended up with double pneumonia! We’d never had known without the oximeter … He was then hospitalised thankfully and given treatment. I tell everyone: keep an oximeter in the house! Get well soon 👍
hi Alex830 I started with a cold on 26/12/23 not COVID but so bad I phoned 111, they thought it best to give me antibiotics, my hematologist also gave me antibiotics 2 weeks ago, still producing lots of yellow green mucus on day 48. Started I & V on 1/2/24. Best wishes to you. Cliff
I would be like"doc give me whatever to get through this" and not trying to fight it at home alone.
If you're in reasonable health (with obviously what we all have to varying degrees) I use a daily dose of Vit D3 with K2 . I find this helps massively with sniffles and runny noses.
I’m sick also for 2 months with the same issue, sick and tired of this. Too much
I had a chest cold in Dec. I had the same symptoms as you. After 3 weeks doctor gave me an antibiotic. The cough and congestion lasted for another 3 weeks. Hope you feel better. Cindi
I reluctantly add to the conversation! I’ve had a chronic cough for two months. I grew up with a mother who had a chronic cough for years. She was a smoker and ended up with COPD. I’m not a smoker. I do feel like my mother right now with the cough!😩 I’m living on cough drops!!! After reading the replies I see that I’m not alone with lingering symptoms.
I would see my doctor about your cough. My cousins daughter never smoked and has COPD. Her doctor said it's because both her parents smoked as she was growing up. I could be totally wrong. I wish you the best. Cindi
Thanks. I have an appointment in a few weeks to be seen. That’s a scary thought regarding COPD! 😵💫😵💫😵💫My friend thinks it Gerd. The last time I saw my oncologist he questioned post nasal drip. If I had to pick….I wouldn’t choose door number one, COPD!!!! I saw what my mother went through! I have to go with the saying that”God doesn’t give you more than you can handle”!!! The CLL and 3 bouts of skin cancer are enough for me. My sister does energy work and works on me daily! I’m open to all the help I can get!!! Thanks for the feedback! 🦋
Your friends could also be right. It could just be Gerd or nasal drip. I totally understand it just doesn't seem to end. One thing after another. That's why I suggested to see your doctor. Why wonder just find out. I'd rather know what then to worry about it. I'll keep you in my prayers. Cindi
Ugh, I had the worst sinus infection I've ever had last year at this time for almost 2 months. My sinuses felt like a brick! No taste and smell but not Covid. Took me three antibiotics to get over it. My ENT finally put me on Levaquin which did the trick. So hard to be patient when it goes on and on. Hope you get relief soon!
Alex
I'm on treatment since January 1, after six years on W&W. In every year of the six years I would get sick more easily and frequently, and in the final year before starting treatment each illness was lasting three to four weeks.
When I saw my Specialist in Boston on September 16, is when she suggested I start treatment on Zanubrutinib soon. She also suggested I start IVIG before starting treatment, because treatment would lower my already very low immune system response.
On October 1 I had my first IVIG, and had been sick once again for two weeks prior to that first infusion. The next Morning my Wife said: "it's a miracle. You didn't cough once last night, and your breathing was much better. I literally cleared up the sickness overnight, upon receiving IVIG. If I were you I'd speak to my Specialist about IVIG.

There is such weird stuff going around. I had some painful sinus thing and a prednisone steroid really helped . Maybe look into that for some relief.
Me too. Cough for weeks, missed four days of work, given steroids and antibiotic and felt better and still do except now I’m on an inhaler. My doc thinks the upper respiratory bug going around is especially tough for me to clear. (A coworker has been coughing for months!). Hope you get better soon.
Update, saw doctor yesterday. Got a prescription for steroids and antibiotics. They did a cbc just in case and my hemoglobin is at 8.5. Hopefully this just a temporary dip because of the virus. Called oncologist, onward we go.
