Haematoma floor of mouth

Hi, is it normal to have Haematoma on floor of mouth, under tongue and coming up to top side of tongue. I have had this twice in two years. Think I just gargled with salt a couple of years ago. Think this time it is worse. I am on Acalabrutinib. Thanks

Do your platelet levels fluctuate much? Drops in platelets can be a source of mouth blood blister type lesions. But twice in 2 years sounds more like "random thing our body does on occasion" to me.

Hi Sofia, thanks so much for replying. My platelets were 200 in July 22 and 230 in May 23. The whole area under my tongue looks awful. Decided to eat fairly soft food as don’t want to puncture anything. Not sure if that is even possible! I sure have a random body!! All the best to you

Oh I was thinking single lesion not multiple! Sounds like something is irritating your mouth. I found I could no longer tolerate certain foods, perhaps something you are eating is now aggravating like MN1999 said.

sorry, many multiples. Underside of my tongue and floor of mouth looks like liver coloured blisters, all joining up, but not painful. I had a headache for a week before they arrived. Can’t recall what different I have eaten either! Thanks

so my new haematologist couldn’t believe they were Haematomas as they wouldn’t go so quickly. They had gone within four days. Tongue doesn’t feel completely right, still slightly sore etc. like you say, random🙄🤫. Take care

I wonder if it *is* platelet related, random side effect from the med. I had nosebleeds after starting one BTKi, but my platelets didn't show major decreases when I got my blood drawn afterwards. The nosebleeds did stop. Hopefully these are random & don't continue very often. I will mention, my mouth does tend to be more sensitive on meds & any lesion at all (bite inside of cheek, cold sore, etc.) turns black, really scared me the first time it occurred. It first happened with a cold sore on my lip; I have had cold sores since childhood but they were never black. My dermatologist told me sometimes the lesions do this, and it didn't seem to be related to really low platelets. So that's why I said maybe you have some sort of mouth irritation, and the lesions are collecting dead blood cells like mine do. And why I asked about foods, because I also find I can not tolerate anything but really mild spices while being treated. Like even black pepper on food my body reacts to, whereas normally I eat a level of spice /hot that many Americans consider very spicy.

Hi, Sofia. Thanks for your thoughts. I seem to be ‘going off’ spicy food these days. Hope all well with you - as can be.

I found that while I was on Imbruvica I would get mouth sores after eating anything containing aspartame. Just a thought -- maybe it's something else causing the problem.

Just a couple of weeks from starting Acala I had several small blood blisters on my inner cheek. They disappeared in a few days and then popped up again on the opposite side of my mouth. They also disappeared quickly and I’ve been clear for several months.
