I have had troubles with sinusitis since half a year.We tried antibiotics 6 times- last time prolonged for 3 weeks. After ohne week the infection is back. Could be that eventually I need a surgery.
I had this problem already in 2012 and 2015 (it took me 1 - 2 years each time to get rid if this condition.
I wanted to ask...has anybody successfully treated chronic infections by taking antibiotics longterm? Should I ask my doc for such an inztervention with permanent antibiotics?

Yes I was diagnosed with chronic ethmoid sinusitis several years ago. Luckily my fabulous ENT surgeon said although many would operate he thought it could leave scar tissue and lead to further infection. Mine is kept under control with a prophylactic dose of Azithromycin three times a week. I also have Avamys and Mometasone, just in case. Sterimar nasal sprays are also helpful. I am lucky 🤞 mine is under control because continuous sinus infections are miserable. You have my sympathy.
Dear ColetteMany thanks...I am also on prophylactic antibiotics - but Lidaprim is rather for urinary infections. I will check if I can get a more efficient for sinus infection.
I am not sure why you think I am on Lidaprim, having checked it is not the same as Azithromycin that was prescribed by my haematology professor and my ENT surgeon. And I can assure you it is extremely efficient.
The other option is IVIG or SubQIG, you can read our past 510 postings about this expensive but effective means of monthly infusions in a clinic or weekly self injections at home.
Many thanks LenI get Ivig and I am otherwise free of infection. So looks like I have narrow sinus which are swollen after some infections from my grandchildren.
A friend (and her dad) both suffered repeat sinus troubles..
One (arrogant?) Dr declared how they usually start with Amoxicillin..
The wiser Dr checked the notes for history of sinus infection and prescribed metronidazole (flagyl) for benefit of it's excellent penetration.. in to all those clogged apertures.. It did the trick.
Neither Dr suspected vitamin A deficiency; some years later, it was shown that vitamin A deficiency was contributing to multiple infections, slow recovery, also skin issues (various eczema and psoriasis types), and warts.. all cleared soon after vitamin A level was corrected, some robust health followed, and night vision improved too. -- correction via retinyl ester (vitA) supplements and eating liver (most concentrated dietary source; 100g = 7 days dose -- care must be taken for those that might conceive, as excess vitA may harm the foetus.)
Adding liver to my diet and drinking no Alkohol would both be no problem. Big problem would be incompatibility with sun exposure, as I do lot of sports outdoor.Many thanks for sharing your experience!
Metronidazole doesn't cause sun sensitivity, unlike doxycycline .. and it's not for longterm continuous use .. but it might leave you feeling poorly at sometime during treatment period.
Hi Reinhard, I have had this exact trouble with constant Sinus and eye infections. Was passed from eye surgeon to Ear, nose and throat specialist. Was told that surgery would last about 6 months, so decided against it. Eventually they put me on Antibiotics permanently, Doxycycline once a day, and I've had no trouble at all for almost 4 years now. I am 77 years of age, so they were worried about any problems over long term use. It is the best treatment I have had and haven't had one infection since. Hope this helps, good luck, regards Eric.
I have had sinusitis on/off for most of my life, even this morning. The antibiotics solution is always temporary for me. Best thing I did was quite smoking which greatly reduced my nasal discharge. Blessings.
