Celebrating the end of treatment with a case of Covid!

On Monday I took my last Venetoclax from a year of treatment. Woo hoo!

About a week before, I noticed that my lymph nodes in my underarms felt swollen and I got worried that my SLL had returned but they didn't feel swollen to the touch. Then I had a couple of episodes where I felt dizzy and my heart palpitated and then I just generally felt like I was coming down with something on and off. On Thanksgiving I felt fine and celebrated the day with family and the following day went to a ballet and dinner but upon standing up from dinner I felt very weak and like I was coming down with something again. No other symptoms. It did not even cross my mind until Wednesday that I might have the dreaded covid after escaping it since it began in 2019/2020.

Monday I took my last Venetoclax but I started feeling worse. Stuffy nose, chest congestion, headache, etc. Yesterday I picked up the at-home tests from the pharmacy and sure enough, it got me!

So hooray 1 year of treatment done, poo poo to getting covid. At least it waited until I was done.

My doctor said I've had it too long already to make it worth taking Paxlovid. So I will just rest and pray. So far so good.

Congratulations Winegrape on finishing one year of treatment! Definitely a downer though that you are 'celebrating' with Covid. Here's hoping that your symptoms will continue to be mild. Keep us posted on your well being.

Thank you gardening-girl! I just thought of another good thing about the end of treatment, I can now eat grapefruit again for vitamin C!

Winegrape, speaking of grapefruit, my sister made a fantastic-looking cold citrus salad for our family Thanksgiving gathering, and being on ibrutinib I could only look longingly at it. Enjoy your grapefruit!

Oh no...that's awful. I didn't realize Ibrutnib was the same way. I'll have a slice for you when I do have some.

Did your primary care doctor or oncologist say you didn’t need the Paxlovid - because mine differ on the subject & of course the oncologist wins this one

I also have a rheumatologist/immunologist which will prescribe ivermectin if I should come down with it - like you I’ve managed to avoid Covid but it’s just a matter of time -

I hope your Covid journey is uneventful and you’re over it quickly -

Hi Stretch1, it was my oncologist. I wasn't sure which one to let know but decided on him. I thought he might be concerned but he seems to think I'll be okay with just rest. My numbers were good on my last test so maybe that's why.

Keeping my fingers crossed you make it through the Covid without problems. And Congratulations on finishing V.

I will finish my paxlovid tomorrow.

Hoping to at least get some antibody out of the Covid. Maybe you will too.

Thank you. Yes, maybe we will have better immunity against it now. I hope the paxlovid worked well for you and you're feeling lots better.
