Do I go back to the main stream Covid vaccines now that my V+O treatment has ended?
I finished V+0 on September 7, and will have test plus CT scan at end of September.
My Dr. has suggested I get the just-released vaccination in a couple weeks.
I had my flu shot today.
Is that when you or your doctor will decide whether to get one of the new covid vaccines? Have you had the Evusheld vaccines and does that make a difference?
Thanks cllady
It will be further discussed at end of Sept. I have not had anything beyond the Two initial and the first booster. I am being quite careful with masking in any public shop and NOT eating out, nor visiting indoors for more than a few minutes.
I do not have any idea if I will get any coverage from any shots for maybe a year--according to my Dr., that will be a slow process, but there may be some coverage from flu and from the new vaccine---it is not knowable.
It does not seem to me that now is the time to free-wheel with my health, for 3 reasons (maybe more)
1. The flu season is upon us and fall has seen a rise in cases before.
2. There are cases in my area at this time and with fall comes so many tempting gatherings for people to attend, it is likely to be a time of rampant cases.
3. There have been reports here of member's getting infections of shingles and pneumonia relatively soon after finishing their treatments.
I have not asked my Dr. his thoughts about Evusheld. I am at this moment feeling like my left arm is twice as heavy as my right--from the flu shot this AM and feel a bit unwell in myself. I will ask the questions and have the discussion next appt. I do know I don't want a bunch of shots at the same time. One at a time and a week or two apart is good enough for me.
I've had two Moderna boosters and one Evusheld. No real complications, except some back paing after the second Moderna.
WBC is still in normal range.
I’m on Ibrutinib and had Evesheld in June ‘22. My specialist recommended I sill get regular (every 6 months) Covid boosters. . Especially this new one that has just come out in the US. I just got my 5th on Sept 1. He also recommended that I wait 1 month between flu and Covid booster as not to overload immune system.
I am a year past the end of the V part of V+O treatment. I had no antibodies from the first 3 Pfizer shots and had Evusheld in April. I just got the new Moderna bivalent booster — maybe it will provide some protection, but I’m not counting on it. I will get Evusheld again in October.
Good luck to you! If not contra-indicated, I’d get Evusheld if you can.
I have had 6x doses of Covid vaccine some during and some after O+V.. As recommended by consultant.she says that the vaccines will do no harm and might just encourage Tcells to face up if I get infected . There is no availability of Evusheld in the UK sadly but there is a fast track treatment protocol which seems to be available to most CLL patients.. I am careful.. Wear a mask when out and don't go to crowded places..
My oncologist said to wait six months after completing the treatment before having any Covid boosters.
