Paxlovid side effects?

I have just tested positive for COVID, eleven months after the last time. That time I had the sotrovimab infusion in hospital, and now I'm being given paxlovid tablets. Any experience on the efficacy of these compared to sotrovimab? The info suggests some grim side effects for 1 in 10 ppl...I'm wondering if I should be bracing myself??

just finished paxlovid last week. Little loose stool, metallic bad taste in mouth, quickly return to negative rapid test.

There are lots of postings here from members who had Paxlovid. Side effects vary but metallic taste seems consistent. My sister-in-law (CLL, 68, W&W 10 years) got P on day 2 of symptoms, never felt particularly ill and was back on her feet on day 3, only then did metal mouth materialize. No rebound of symptoms, which some have reported.

Have not heard much about sotrovimab lately.

Different people react differently.  I know five people who took Paxlovid within two days of testing positive or showing symptoms.

My otherwise healthy 85-year-old sister tested positive, was given Paxlovid and after the first dose she began vomiting.  She then opted to consume a significant amount of ice cream (?) before taking the second dose but once again vomited.  She stopped taking Paxlovid and had a week or two of mild Covid symptoms.

A neighbor in her mid-seventies who was undergoing chemotherapy for multiple myeloma tested positive, took her anti-nausea meds along with the Paxlovid, and had no problems.  Her spouse tested negative but showed symptoms, was given Paxlovid as an abundance of caution, and had no problems.  Both of them showed no Covid symptoms after completing Paxlovid as directed.

Three other folks: a fifty-three-year-old man and a couple in their late- seventies took Paxlovid as directed after testing positive, had no problems, and felt fine in a couple of days. The people who completed Paxlovid had no rebounds, but everyone complained about the metalic taste.

Good luck with it.

That's really interesting! So, what I'm hearing is this medication is justification for eating significant amounts of ice cream?! That's my take away point!😄

Good to hear most ppl have been ok on it. Thanks!

I got Paxlovid the day I tested positive. I had few symptoms, just head congestion and tired. Got the dreadful metallic taste (cinnamon candy or gum helps with that). After five days I tested negative, but had rebound two days later with worse symptoms, including fever and terrible sinus congestion. That lasted several days. Not sure what they’re saying now about percentage of people who experience rebound, but of all the people I know who took Paxlovid, about a quarter of them experienced rebound.
