Hosepipe Ban

kitchengardener2 profile image

Just wondering if anyone has had a letter from their water suppliers (ours is Yorkshire Water). This outlines that because of health and well-being we will still be able to use our hosepipe during the hosepipe ban. I wonder if it is because we were on the vulnerable list during the pandemic.

I then started thinking it might be a hoax letter even though it looks very normal with all the right logos.

Alice,

Just out of idle curiosity I have just googled and Yorkshire water ban comes in on 26th but ‘blue badge holders, those on Yorkshire Waters Priority Services register or WaterSure tariff for medical reasons, are also excluded from the ban’

Strange Colette, neither of us have blue badges and I doubt that CLL will give any exceptions but it's interesting. We won't use the hosepipe anyway but we shall continue to use watering cans and grey water. I just wondered if it was because we had been declared vulnerable during the pandemic.

I can only assume there is a link with your local council ? But handy as many people know. I have a feeling my water company may have asked me some years ago 🤔 and it’s a box you might have ticked and forgot about.

Possibly, but water bill is in Tony's name so he would have had to have ticked any boxes. I am pleased though that we can continue to use our automated watering system which deals with the vegetable beds and hanging baskets, we have a bucket outside the kitchen door and washing up water which is clean is poured into that whilst we also take dirty water direct to larger pots with shrubs etc. The rose trees are actually looking better for having the soapy water poured over them. x

We moved home into a different water board area recently. We have not received any priority notification, not surprised. Following a tip mentioned on "Evusheld for the UK" I have completed an application for priority on our supplier's website. This was motivated by a concern to maintain a supply of water if the taps get turned off. The logic being that we can't shop or queue as safely as most of the world. We are waiting for a response.

On holiday currently acting like normal people sharing a house with our son, daughter in law and two granddaughters . They isolated and tested for a week prior to joining us and are testing here .No masks inside and lots of hugs for the first time since 15/02/20, joy! All of us wear N95/99 masks around other people to maintain our bubble. Back to covid threat reality next week.

Enjoy your holiday Michael, we too have had short breaks away in fairly isolated cottages with the two friends who were 'our bubble '. Was hoping that Evosheld would be available, we too have bought N95 masks and we are hopeful of a holiday abroad during the winter months. I am wondering if the letters were sent to those declared vulnerable during the pandemic. We didn't apply then for special needs but we were given priority for supermarket slots and we received food parcels without asking.

We have a large garden and an automatic watering system for some of it but we use grey water and watering cans when we can.

Thank you!I set up an automatic watering system in our two previous houses, in the days that we could travel. The plan is do the same in our current house, a winter project. We also use grey water for our pots as the lawns become browner and browner. The rain is most welcome,

Best wishes,

Michael

Well done Yorkshire Water. Seems that although the government paid Thames Water to build a desalination plant, it isn’t turned on🤣😂🤷‍♀️. So hose pipe ban coming. Will check their website though. Thanks for the info

My husband had the same letter from our supplier. I rang the Company to check this out as at our previous address we had an exemption as we kept chickens (livestock) & I thought it might have transferred erroneously.

It is correct. It was explained to me that my husband is registered on their priority list for supply issues due to his medical condition & that, as a result of this, the exemption is because he could have difficulty with strength or fatigue in tasks where a hosepipe would help.

We also live in East Yorkshire, also on the 'Vulnerable List', but no letter from Yorkshire Water to date. Enjoyed the rain this morning though. 🙂
