Has anyone taking venclexta had problems with their teeth chipping? My teeth seem to be disintegrating.

My dentist made the observation that problems with the teeth that coincide with treatment were probably there beforehand. That's because problems with your teeth tend to develop slowly.

Have you seen your dentist?

Thank you. Yes, I have seen a dentist and he is working on my teeth. Its very strange as my teeth have always been super strong, and suddenly my front teeth are jagged on the edges and 2 back teeth have broken sides. Im thinking its something to do with the medication.

Nothing similar has appeared in the Related Posts, so you seem to have been the first to post this. Ask your dentist what could make your teeth become brittle and how long that would take to happen.

I have the same problem and am on Venetoclax and Obinutuzumab but I am sure my problems pre-date the drugs. But I do wonder whether all the tooth problems I have is to do with CLL (as well as being 75).

I guess the CLL could be the problem, but I'm thinking it has more to do with the lowered immunity or the medicine that causes it. THank you for responding!

You don't say your age. If you are over 65, it's reasonable that 50+ year old teeth may have reached a "breaking point" with respect to enamel loss. There's a lot of interest in this "enamel loss" in dentistry nowadays, and toothpastes/treatments to slow it down if not actually stop it.

The only meds I am aware of that can affect teeth "long term" are certain antihistamines, and aspirin. Your diet affects it most, I think. Do you drink carbonated sugared beverages like soda? Eat gummy vitamins? Drink liquid vitamin C products?

You may also be grinding and not aware.

From reading all of the following posts I suggest those affected with bruxism/ teeth clenching visit their dentist who can diagnose it. Then they can have an impression taken and an occlusal guard can be fabricated in a dental lab for the patient to wear at night. As a dental hygienist, I see the bruxism problem everyday with adults especially those enduring STRESS! The guard will relax the jaw while you sleep when most of the grinding damage is taking place. It will protect all the teeth from further damage. A dentist can address sight incisal roughness but major chipping will require repair and then prevention.

I am having the same problem with my teeth. However, I have never been on venetoclax, but my wife has and she is not having any teeth problems at the age of 74.

Hi,I was on Ibrutinib and Venetaclax for two and a half years , and have been in remission for two. Just like you, my teeth are cracking and wearing away leaving sharp edges. I have needed 6 fillings and root canal treatment in the last six months, some of the decay only showing up on X-rays.

Yes, The sharp edges. Its a very strange feeling.

Hello - sorry to hear this. I have experienced very tender bottom aching gums - which felt like my teeth were going to fall out. This comes and goes. My consultant just said he had never heard of ghos side effect. Take care

I was on Venetoclax for over 2 years. I have had 3 teeth to chip…have gone to the dentist each time. His explanation is that he sees this every day in healthy people as well. It happens “as we get older”. Our teeth get older as well and are more easily damaged.

I’m post Venetoclax/Obinutuzumab x 3 months but have had dental issues since my immune system started to tank a few years ago. My oncologist told me this is not uncommon with immune compromised patients. I’m 52. I wish you well.

I didn't think about it being the immune system. My is in the gutter also. So there are 2 possibilities. Regardless, its happening. :(

I am still on W&W, but I noticed the same thing yesterday. My lower front teeth appear to be chipping. I think something is affecting the enamel. Best of luck.

Thank you for your response. Someone also suggested it may be the lower immunity. But that all goes back to the venclexta. Im going to mention it to the company as a possible side affect.

I was on Venetoclax and Gazyva two years ago, but the remission only lasted two years. And I restarted treatment again earlier this year. In neither time have I had any issues with my teeth. Sorry that you have.

Thank you for responding. I'm so glad you haven't, and I'm sorry your remission is no longer. But I'm sure the treatments will get you back there! I'm working on that now. :) The teeth are just an extra irritation I will fight.

I've had zero problems taking Venclexta other than my savings account dramatically shrinking. I am convinced that my hair was thinning on Venclexta.... but it could be that it is just a part of getting older. I will say, however, that my teeth were beginning to chip before I was on Venclexta. My dentist repaired them with some kind of super hard plastic that hardened with an ultraviolet light......

Yes! That is what my dentist is using. Its just discouraging. UGH

I have been having teeth issues too. I thought it was from Levothyroxine, my doctor said no.

Thank you for your reply. That is the only cancer medication I am on, so I'm sure that is what it is. My doctor doesn't disagree. Luckily, the dentist is able to fix everything so far. :)
