Alcohol
Hi Hildebs,
-
There seems to be a wide variety of opinions on alcohol and Ibrutinib / Imbruvica. (And all the BTK, Pi3K and BCL-2 inhibitors that need clearance through the kidneys)
-
I suspect that the concern is that both of them place additional loading on your kidneys and the combination can eventually degrade your kidney function. So patients with low EGFR may need to avoid all alcohol see: kidney.org/atoz/content/gfr
SNIP: In adults, the normal eGFR number is more than 90. eGFR declines with age, even in people without kidney disease.
-
So my doctor suggests "All things in moderation" including everything that might damage the kidneys and eventually the liver. (Extreme exercise, stress, drugs (prescription and social), alcohol, etc.)
-
You should ask your own doctor for guidance based on what the doctor knows of your personal health history and current blood tests results.

It'll make you tipsy for sure
Meds damage the liver. Booze damages the liver.
Protect the liver!
Easier said than done, that's for sure.
Based on my very unscientific research after 5 years on Ibrutinib and pouring myself several very stiff drinks twice a week on average I’d say it had no effect at all.
Thanks for everyone’s updates. Trying to look ahead.
Drink away..life is short.
