Alcohol with Ibrutinib

Does anyone knows if alcohol interferes with the Ibrutinib treatment? I was told not to eat oranges but not a word about the "good stuff"

I asked my Cll specialist if I could drink wine while on ibrutinib and he told me it was mandatory I do so. :) I have faithfully followed his instructions since and have not had any problems mixing alcohol with ibrutinib.

This is exactly the reply I was hoping for:-)

My Bday party is coming up and I could not stand to miss on few toasts.

Thank you

Do you have a drink every evening? I am beginning to think my two nightly drinks had something to do with my bad experience on imbuverica.

I don’t keep track much. I guess I would say I have a glass of wine every now and then during the week. I might have a good bit more on the weekend or for some occasion. I don’t think for me in interacts with my ibrutinib at all. I drink about the same before and after I started ibrutinib and have not noticed any difference or had any reactions of which I am aware.

Oranges are fine grapefruit is not.. bitter orange or Seville oranges are not.

Imbruvica (ibrutinib) be hard on the liver, its doing heavy lifting in treatment, talk to your CLL doctor about using alcohol.

Alcohol is not prohibited, but the list of foods is fairly long now, starfruit, pomegranate, St. John's Wort, bergamot there are lists you can search on the iinternet.

Also there are over 400 drugs that interact with Imbruvica (ibrutinib) so don't assume your GP knows this, always run everything by your CLL doctor...

All the best on Imbruvica (ibrutinib)

When I asked my oncologist if I could drink on ibrutinib, he joked "I can't think of a better reason to drink." I have cut down, but still enjoy the occasional cocktail. Oranges are OK, just not Seville oranges (used in marmalade) and grapefruit.

I like your Dr's joke. Leaving in "bourbon country" I can easily give up the naval oranges but not the beer and whisky.

BTW, how are you doing on the combination drugs? Any progress yet?

My numbers are all in the normal range but we won't know till a BMB in December how I'm really doing after 6 months of treatment.

To my knowledge there is little direct interaction between Ibrutinib and your liver, some other drugs we take ( Idelalisib for example) have more impact on the liver.

-

I believe that Ibrutinib is removed from the body by the large intestine, and the prohibited drugs and foods either speed up or slow down that action.

-

As the doctors often say - all things in moderation.

-

You regular check up likely includes a liver panel, and you may want to ask about any of the measurements that indicate your liver function & alcohol.

I know that when my ALT/SGPT is high, there is an immediate question about alcohol consumption and I rarely drink.

My specialist says ok in moderation if your liver enzymes stay put. Ibrutinib is hard on your liver, so if they go up, you might need to stop for a while. As always, ask your doctor.
