I have CLL but my recent CT scan showed a left lower lobe nobule. My scans have been good until this. Has anyone else had something like this?

Hi Jvander11,-

Your question is very brief, but is probably best handled by the radiologist that read the scan or the doctor that ordered the scan.

Since the body location is not included in your post, I would need to guess that it involves your lungs (nodules can occur in many places but the left lower lobe is probably your lung).

-

If so, here are some explanations from authoritative sources

webmd.com/lung/benign-lung-...

cancer.org/cancer/lung-canc...

thoracic.org/patients/patie...

We hope it is benign, but as the articles indicate, it is important to have close attention by your medical team to determine if it is not benign.

Thank you for the reply! It is on the left lung. I have been on venetoclax for 8 months how’s after combining with 6 months of gesyva. No past detections from the radiologist in prior ct scans.

In August, at the end of treatment with an OIV combination I had a CT scan as part of the protocol. There was an 8 mm nodule noted that had not been there 20 months before on a pretreatment CT scan. There was no sense of panic from my hematologist but I am having a follow up scan in February to see if it has changed. That was the recommended time frame from radiologist.

I had one in the upper right lobe which was removed under surgery as it was large. I was also on Venetoclax.

I had one removed right after I was on a trial of I/V. It was picked up on the CT scans over the course of the 2 yr trial and grew from about 7mm to 11mm. They took it out, biopsied it, found it was cancer and then removed a larger section of the lung (about 10%). They also checked several nearby lympnodes to see if it had spread, but they were all clear.

I now have a new one 5mm which I also have to have checked again in January.

Most of the time they are just scar tissue from past infections

After 6 years on ibrutinib a scan picked up one nodule in my right lung middle lobe. My hemo-oncologist said it was probably caused by the drug, something about fungus which ibrutinib causes. I had just then switched to venetoclax. I do not know if venetoclax also causes them. He wanted a biopsy and I refused. I decided the risk of a collapsed lung outweighed at my age (80) the risk of a single nodule that was probably benign. He agreed to do a second scan, which the radiologist said showed it had shrunk by a third. He was not sure, so we did a third scan, which showed the nodule has indeed shrunk. I will have another scan in 6 months, but we now agree it is almost certainly not serious.

I do hope yours is of no worry.

I have 3 nodules in my lungs. My SLL was diagnosed as an incidental finding on a CT scan for lung cancer screening. I am still in W&W. The nodules are all under 4mm and I have an annual CT scan to monitor. All my doctors are aware and aren’t concerned. I was told this is not an unusual finding and even with the SLL, it’s viewed as benign, until there are any findings otherwise. I will deal with that if anything changes!

Best wishes.
