I’m uncertain but I’m curious what an IVIG treatment costs. Can you share this information?

Best,

Mark

My doctor's office bills around 12,500. Insurance pays about 2,300. Unfortunately I might not have insurance in the future. Sad thing is when I asked the doctor's office if they would accept 2,300 cash they said no. They expect whole 12,500. Insane.

Wow. That is high. I’m sorry you are facing such hardship. I wonder if the self injected form of IgG is less expensive?

My hospital charges around 9,000 medicare pays 2,000 and they accept it. You might try to shop around for a lower price.

Hospitals have charge sheets with obscene prices they never expect to get. Patients on Medicare or with employer-based insurance or with Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) Exchange based insurance are probably covered and the hospital gets FAR less and accepts it. The hospital will make a profit on what Medicare would pay, around 2300 depending on where you are located. I am on Medicare and my monthly IVIG costs me nothing since it is covered under Part B of Medicare.

Unfortunately, for people without insurance, hospitals often insist on the chargemaster rates. I am told the number 1 cause of bankruptcies in the U.S. is health care costs. It is one of the absurdities of the American health insurance system.

Since the hospital will still make a profit on the lower rate, it is possible you will find a place that will charge you that lower rate. Unfortunately, immune globulin is scarce and that makes this less likely.
