I'm on keto but watch and wait only and earliest stage (HCMBL). Trying to avoid or slow progression this way. So far so good. Are you contemplating keto or are you doing it already? Do you think you'd be able to do it long term if you knew it was helpful? I've seen very few people personally who lasted longer than a few weeks doing keto and those are true fanatics
Thanks for your response. I’ve been on a keto diet of mostly soups, broths, cooked veggies and soft meats..It’s been hard cravings wise but I’ve been doing it for almost 4 months..
Lost 30-40 lbs and feel great on good days..
Lately I’ve been tired and do t know why..😕😕
Just trying to do the right things..
I felt fatigue in my lower legs for about half a year and I have no idea why. It only presented itself when lying down or during the night. As soon as I started to move the fatigue went away. I found that detralex which I took for a hemorrhoid flare-up miraculously cured the fatigue in the lower legs. I started to Google and I found that there is something like a chronic venous insufficiency. The veins are somehow lazy and they don't allow proper blood flow. Since I did not want to take the detralex indefinitely I started a walking experiment. I do 10,000 steps a day plus bicycle 15 km everyday plus I train everyday on top of the other moving around which I do and I space these all out throughout the day so I move a lot. And this helped. The fatigue almost completely went away.
I've followed a low carb/keto diet, with a few excursions, since February and have now lost over 100 pounds. I feel better in every way but it hasn't helped my CLL one iota.
Not sure I would call myself a low carb/keto 'fanatic' but I feel well on it and will continue to follow it.
If low carb suits you then do it but I'm not aware of any evidence that it will be beneficial for CLL.
From prescribing information: accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatf...
Section 12.3, Effect of food:
"Administration with a low-fat meal (approximately 512 kilocalories, 25% fat calories, 60% carbohydrate calories, and 15% protein calories) increased venetoclax exposure by approximately 3.4-fold and administration with a high-fat meal (approximately 753 kilocalories, 55% fat calories, 28% carbohydrate calories, and 17% protein calories) increased venetoclax exposure by 5.1- to 5.3-fold compared with fasting conditions"
This is stated as with a meal, not in reference to keto diet. Could be very pertinent to the effect of each dose. 5fold+ increase from intended dose is a heck of a lot.
A naturopath put me on the keto diet, I lasted a couple months. I coincidentally entered into my worst downhill spiral; CLL escalated. I don’t believe the diet caused it but it didn’t help. I had always had very low cholesterol and for the first time in my life it skyrocketed.I find the Mediterranean Diet to be more appropriate for me, and I feel much better on it, It seems to be less inflammatory. I am currently on Venetoclax, but was on watch and wait during my keto experience.
That said, venetoclax inflames my joints, so I try not exacerbate it through dietary choices.
No doubt we do not all respond the same way to food or drugs, just my two cents.
