Neil here's my fish study
Hi James,
There are other members who are not asleep who can interpret your FISH report .
As your report states, because 13q del was the sole abnormality found, you have a (very) favourable result. Pending further analysis they would like you to request, it's actually a better result than if your FISH test didn't find any deletions.
Talk to your specialist about whether they consider that further testing worth doing. Just keep in mind that FISH tests only look for the common genetic lesions. While it is possible to do more exacting measurements of the DNA damage that led to your development of CLL, without comparative studies that correlate these more detailed results with life expectancy (where the outcomes are changing with improved treatments anyway), you may not get much further guidance. Unlike CML, for example, the genetic lesions involved in the development of CLL are fairly complex. It's how they affect the stability of the CLL which influences the likelihood of sub-clones arising that determines how long we're likely remain in watch and wait and our response to treatment.
A better test to do now would be your IGHV mutation status, which has the greatest influence on your CLL tempo. If you are IGHV mutated, you may never need treatment.

Thank you for responding so quickly Neil , yes after i posted my test i thought to myself i wonder what time it is in the land down under .... it is so much easier to read the info on here and go back and reread it again then listen to the doctor and try to figure out what he said the day before .. I learn more from you folks and then i do some on line research to learn more from the info presented etc. ... I have been wondering what the mutated and unmutated was all about .. i did not think it applied to me .... Then i did a search and included the IGHV letters and found a very good article explaining the whole IGHV testing .. I see now that it would be very important to know if i am muted or unmutated ... I will call the oncologist office on monday to see if i can get this test done next week ...That is very good news about the 13q deletion . i have only been diagnosed for 5 months and I already have a stack of papers in my health/ disease folder .sometimes i want to know everything there is to know about my condition and at other times i don't even want to look at that folder ... i have not been to my oncologist for 4 months so i need to go asap ... Hopefully i am mutated . I never thought i would be glad to be mutated .. i feel better already knowing about the 13q deletion ... Thanks again for your help . blessings , james
