Welcome Paboje, I see that you have just joined us. You haven't shared anything about your journey with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia that could help other members better answer you, with respect to relevant experience of antibiotics for bladder infection. Antibiotics have a reputation for causing gastrointestinal upsets, because they disrupt the gut microbiome - killing off good and bad bacteria. It can take a while for that balance to be restored. We really can't offer medical advice, so it would be wise of you to check with your doctor if your stomach pain doesn't improve.

Hi Paboje47, I agree with everything that AussieNeil has said, but having suffered a great many urine infections over the years - not just since CLL, I have asked my haematologist to include in the letter he sends to GP after each appointment that because of compromised immune system I should have 7 days antibiotics rather than just three days. Tough because of the side effects of antibiotics, but more likely to completely kill off the infection. Might be worth asking your haematologist to suggest this to your GP.

I would just add that a common side effect of trimethoprim is stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.

But more importantly, trimethoprim may be contraindicated for people with blood disorders (specifically low red blood cells). If you are a CLL patient, I would make sure you've told the prescribing doctor of your condition.

I'm so glad you don't have cancer! As someone who has had WAY too many UTIs, I can attest to the value of D-mannose for bladder infections. My gynecologist told me about it and I've never had one since. You can get it at any health food store or online. I hope you feel better soon.

lve heard of this,do you take every day or when you feel it coming on?

Exactly, I take 1000mgs in the morning and again in the evening if I have the slightest symptom of a UTI. I usually don't need to take it for more than a few days. And OK, TMI, I take it in advance of any activities that precipitate UTIs.

D-Mannose is a simple sugar that e-coli bacteria attach to and washes out via the urinary tract. E-coli is responsible for 95% (I think) of bladder infections. As you probably know, bladder infections can move to the kidneys, so if you have low back pain, it's important to see a doctor.
