Defend your space with a loud T-shirt - "#stillatrisk PLEASE KEEP YOUR DISTANCE"

An extension of the idea of the warning badge, per Blood Cancer UK.

T-shirt to get you noticed and keep you that bit safer. Message front +/-back +/-sides. Example:

teamshirts.co.uk/basket/caa...

EDIT: I talked to the supplier. They will sell INDIVIDUAL shirts printed to order, or multiples on a pick-n-mix basis, i.e. you can choose your style, size, colour, design.

The unit price reduces as the order increases beyond 6 shirts. For example the unit price of the Men's Gildan heavy T-shirt: for 100 is £11.36, for 20 is £16.18, for 6 is £25.11, for 1 is £27.90.

Therefore it would be useful to know WHO'S INTERESTED?

Great to see you taking forward the T-shirt idea I proposed, and you’re still using my hashtag! 😬 Let me know if black becomes an option. The contrast would make the lettering clearer. It would also be reminiscent of celebrated British designer, Katharine Hamnett CBE. #fashionactivism

There are plenty of options for the fashion conscious, see my heavily EDITED post.

Pricewise the key thing is numbers.

It's an obvious move for blood cancer charities but they would want to feature their logo, and I for one would not want to broadcast my medical condition to the world.

Yes, the issue with the logos occurred to me, as well.

The fashion connection wasn’t for me, as I don’t wear T-shirts, anyway, but if it looked like Katharine Hamnett’s style, it might have had a greater appeal for others. She was known for her political activism with messages like ‘Choose Life’ in black and white, which were very popular for a while, back in the 80s/90s. Wham! were known to wear them.

You’ve obviously gone to some effort to explore the options. Thank you for that, and I hope you get some interest.

Thanks. We'll see. If not I'll treat myself anyway.

This is a good idea (although a 50” size might be a touch big!)Hope one of the blood cancer charities takes it up.

Cx

PS might there be somewhere that does them in smaller numbers?

Range of sizes and colours available. I just wanted to float the idea to gauge interest. Plenty of Keep Your Distance shirts out there - only half the message IMO.

Good market research. 10/10

I dunno... it might attract the crazies in the USA. Not sure about UK human behavior.

I figure if someone violates my space I will just say, "Dude. I have blood cancer. What's wrong with you. Back off!"

I encounter dozeballs on a daily basis, complete nutjobs rarely (though a subset of the latter regularly appear on TV wearing a hard hat or staging a press conference).

The T-shirt should get the attention of the bare-faced dozeball who might otherwise be casually breathing down your neck in the checkout queue.

Or just use your right to bear arms! 😎

Bare arms - I think they also do sleeveless vests

The best T shirt i have seen says " If i can punch you in the face you are too close" 😂

Lol. I like the idea, but here in the states, someone will just say, "Stay home then".

Or worse. There was a news story in the US of a shopper (in Iowa) asking another shopper to pull his mask above his nose and it escalated to a parking lot brawl in which the nose-exposer beat the daylights out of the requester and then coughed and spit on him, screaming, “If I have it, you have it!” He was sentenced to 10 years in prison (the beater/nose-exposer, not the requester). seattletimes.com/nation-wor... Many people here have lost their way.

I know. It's ridiculous. I have lost faith in humanity.

Take heart my friend. It is not all of humanity. Fewer than 25% of Americans have gone down this crazy path. It's not the majority, only the loudest and most obnoxious. Remember that every time you take your car onto a road, hardly anyone purposely drives into oncoming traffic. That's a miracle every day.

You haven’t driven in downtown Atlanta lately 😬

Been to Houston lately?? Lol. 😂

I just can't handle the way people have become. I am a conservative. Without shame. But the people that have "hijacked" the conservative movement have gone Looney tunes. The idea that asking someone to wear a mask to help others is a violation of their civil rights/liberties is crazy. I would never knowingly put someone at risk. However, I have been told that even though it stinks that I have cancer, that's "your problem. Don't try to take my liberties away because you havehealth problems."

I have also heard the "well, if you're "scared" just stay home."

People not caring about others is just awful.

Sorry to hear that, KMac. :-(

No biggie. It's my "cross" to bear but it is sad what has happened. And now, with cases exploding again, even in the vaccinated, it's disheartening. My daughter is a PICU nurse and they are full of Covid patients. That's the difference with this new variant. Kids are getting sick. Just in time for school!! Yay.

And my wife is a teacher. Lol.

PaulaS profile image

Maybe now that kids are getting more sick (with this new variant), attitudes will change a bit? Must make it so hard for your wife, being a teacher....

KMac1969 in reply to PaulaS

She is scared she'll give me Covid but like I told her, we're doing all we can.

PaulaS profile image
PaulaSVolunteer in reply to KMac1969

Yes, that's just what I was thinking, KMac... (that your wife would be afraid of bringing home Covid ). She's probably not the only one in that situation... having to work in a risky environment, with a vulnerable person at home. Very hard... :-(

It is tough on her. But it is what it is.

Great idea but I act as a magnet anyway whilst just politely moving to a decent social distance whilst out walking. People seem to move closer 🙄 or into the space I’ve just vacated as if I was moving out of their way so they could use more of the footpath!!!Wonder what this would do? I haven’t ventured into a supermarket yet.

An alternative idea.

Record the sound of a hacking cough on to your phone. Via bluetooth, pair phone to Sound Cube in rucksack/ shopping basket. Play back recording on repeat at max volume.

Maybe you should patent that idea!!
