Has anyone else been told that they cannot receive routine dental inspection, clean and polish, because of COVID?

I have emailed my practice with up to date vaccination status and been told they aren’t seeing people who are CEV for routine inspection. It is now nearly 18 months since I’ve been seen and before that I regularly attended to ensure my mouth is as good as it can be. Now I have to have pain or a problem to access the care. Does anyone know if this is current guidance to private dentists?

I have access to my dentist for whatever treatment is needed. Have an appt on saturday for an inspection. He`s fully aware of my health status and treatments I`m now on.

Hope you can get seen; it is important we have good oral care.

Take care.

We had an NHS dentist (UK) and they are not seeing patients unless they have a problem such as pain. As a result of not getting an appointment we moved to a private dentist and so routine inspections have been available. I guess if you are a private practice you need patients coming across the door!

It’s the conclusion I’m coming to. I’ve emailed back asking to see the guidance they’re referring to.

I have a private dentist, who knows that I am CEV and am receiving treatment for CLL & osteoporosis. Saw them last June and am booked to have a check up 10 June.

Last went in December. Dentist assured me they were fully functional and urged me not to hold back if problems. Of course they know my CLL history. Can only get private in this part of the UK at present.

Check up due in June.

I’ve not booked a clean and polish during Covid because I personally thought it was an unnecessary risk as the dentist always comments on my clean teeth and gums. But intend to book for September.

I also have a private dentist in London and no problems with getting an appointment. I assume because of larger delays between appointments it is taking longer to see her. She knows I have CLL as does her best friend.Good luck

I have had a clean and polish and check up from a private dentist in February after more than 1 year. I wanted to go last August but he didn't want to see immunocompromised folks like me, offered an appointment in November/December which I declined due to increasing rates of COVID. The appointment was postponed to January but we both put it off as the rate of COVID infection was v high. On my visit I was the only patient in the waiting room and they took maximum precautions. I would think that inmost of the USA and in the UK it is now safe to see the dentist for routine work

My uk NHS dentist has stopped doing cleaning and polishing. I don’t think it’s just me but all patients.

UK private dentists are working, but any potential aerosol event, (drill, sonic cleaning, flushing air/water in mouth, (basically dentistry treatment) then Surgery required to lie fallow (unused) for 30 minutes then cleaned.!

Very bad for cash flow, as only paid for treatment.

They are looking into high flow ventilation for surgeries- but ultimately dentistry is going to cost more.

Retired (phew) dentist.!

No this isn't guidance to private dentists. I'm CEV and have seen my dentist twice for inspection, clean and polish. It's very important to have good teeth hygiene especially if you are CEV.

There is guidance and it’s open to interpretation. I have opened a dialogue with my private dentist and we are arranging an appointment for my care in the near future.
