Imbruvica and Dizziness

Hello all: I have been on Imbruvica since summer of 2017. I don't know if this medication is or is not causing my problem. I have been getting on and off spells of dizziness in the past year. I would have a bout for about 5 or 6 days then it will go away. This has happened 2 or 3 times in the past year. Has anybody else had this or similar problems with this. Doctors tell me my blood work is great with exception of my sugar. I am told to check blood sugar or my blood pressure. Blood pressures are 130s- 140s over 85 to 95, sugar last checked was 152. A1C 7.2. Thank you kindly for any help or suggestions on this.

And here is a link to the 77 previous posts that included the word dizziness, you may want to scan through them for suggestions of possible causes including CLL itself:

I was having dizzy spells while on a med called glimiperide for diabetes. It would come and go also..so wondering if it has more to do with blood sugars. Been on IB and Acal. without any dizziness after quitting the glimeride. As a long time sufferer of both HBP and diabetes, your numbers sound a bit up there.

I have been on imbruvicia (ibrutinib) since February, and yes, I do get dizzy spells, however not for long durations. I'm a bit more careful on stairs, but no major inconvenience.

I also suffered dizziness for quite awhile. It struck me suddenly and affected me to the point that I needed to touch a wall for balance as I walked. I was functional in a couple of days but it took several months for the dizziness to completely disappear. The doctors and I attributed it to the Imbruvica side effects. That was over a year ago and the dizziness has not come back.

Larry, I am not sure in what part of the world you live, so my thoughts of your needing to get help with your glucose levels from an Endocrinologist may not be a possibility for you.

If your blood glucose levels wax and wane, when the are low, you may get a feeling of dizziness. Also, (and I can not diagnose, but just suggest) I assume you are drinking the needed amounts of water that is suggested for patients on treatment, if not, you may be dehydrated at times, which can cause dizziness.

Low hemaglobin (anemia) can also be a cause of dizziness. And, there is the inner ear condition that can cause equilibrium (dizziness) problems.

Lastly, there is a positional dizziness we can experience--rising from a sitting or lying position can result in dizziness.

I would pursue the cause of the dizziness, were I you (actually I have done so) because falling as we are aging and as we are being treated for cancer, can put us in hospital for bone breaks.

I hope you will let us know the outcome of your search for the cause of your dizziness. And, in the meantime, be careful out there!.

I’ve been on Imbruvica since April of this year and I’ve had similar dizziness. However, I’m also experiencing vertigo so my team of doctors aren’t sure what’s causing the dizziness.
