Diagnosed 4-2013 with CLL (trisomy 12). Started first line treatment on 420mg doses/day in 12-16 (white blood cells at 460,000) until extreme drug toxicity in 02-18. Hospitalized with pneumonia and survived. Off drug for two months, then titration dosages from 280, then 140 and finally 70mg / day. Blood chemistries are normal with a slight increase the last two months in serum glucose.

I'm new here. Anyone experiencing blood glucose elevated on low dose (70mg/daily) ibrutinib?
Hi Buck1000,

Here is a link to the 50+ times glucose was discussed in past postings here. I hope you can peruse them to see if there is useful information.

In a quick scan of the top postings, I don't see much mention of Ibrutinib affecting blood glucose, but some of our other members like Newdawn may have some input for you.

Interestingly, my blood glucose was much lower on full Ibrutinib dosage and has risen significantly since reducing to 1 a day then discontinuing completely. It’s hard to know why that should happen but there does seem to be some positive mechanism at play between Ibrutinib and glucose control. This article seems to confirm this hypothesis;

‘In the present study we sought to investigate whether the FDA approved medicine ibrutinib could inhibit limit inflammation in a murine model of high fat diet induced T2D, and hence reduce the development of insulin resistance and microvascular disease. We report for the first time that therapeutic intervention with ibrutinib significantly improved glycemic control by restoring normal insulin signalling in diabetic mice.’
The only other issue could possibly be if you were given steroids during the episode of pneumonia because that certainly can elevate glucose levels.
Best wishes,
Newdawn
