hi all finished cycle 1 dont feel to bad apart from taking all the different tablets after ,my question his is it normal to take g-csf injections on day 7 and are they safe ,,thankyou ,,kel555

I would expect that you would have shown up as neutropenic in a recent blood test to be recommended a G-CSF injection. The risk of side effects of having a G-CSF shot is less than remaining neutropenic. I've had about 200 injections with no side effects. Bone pain is the most common side effect and manageable with acetimenophen, also known as paracetamol, Panadol, Tylenol or Apap.

To counter treatment-induced neutropenia, I had 3 or 4 courses of Filgrastim in my 6 months FCR. Between 1 and 7 consecutive days each time. No noticeable side effects.

GCSF seemed to give neutrophils an immediate boost, but they tailed off to low levels again within a week of the final injection.

Consensus view seems to be that the usual risks associated with GCSF shots are acceptable in preventing the far more serious risk of neutropenic sepsis. Others believe GCSF should be used more sparingly, and Planetary Kim's Related Post (to the right on screen) points out that GCSF should not be given to patients with disorders or infections of the lung.
