Ibrutinib supply?

Since ibrutinib is made in Wuhan China, are there any worries about supply shortages?

this has been brought up several times in the last month. Abbvie says they have adequate supplies-it's the base chemical made in china-not the finished product

Hi fescue,

-

A small quibble with your post: The active ingredient in Ibrutinib is made by Lonza in Nansha China, the far southern edge of the city of Guangzhou China, at the mouth of the Pearl River and close to Shenzen & Hong Kong. That is over 1000 kilometers from Wuhan, and Nansha is a major ocean container shipping port that is functioning normally shipping many of the items we get from China.

-

(I managed a construction project a few blocks away from the Lonza site around the time I was diagnosed)

-

The final formulation dose compounding and tablet formation or capsule filling was done in several contract manufacturing sites around the world with one in the Midwest USA, and I believe another in Singapore.

-

The inactive ingredients (fillers, binders and lubricants) are usually obtained from many companies around the world.

Thanks, that is very interesting and helpful.

I've said for years that ALL manufacturing of medical products and including pharmaceuticals should be brought back to the US. I'm really not comfortable at all having a foreign country make most of our pharmaceutical drugs, or medical supplies.

Bluenet-most drug manufacturers are multinational, Many that you know of today are foreign companies that were foreign companies 50 years ago also. Roche,Sandoz, many others have NEVER been usa companies. They do sell their products here though.

Especially now. I’m hopeful that all our drugs will be made in U. S. And be affordable.

Yesterday I attended the CLL Society COVID-19 Virtual Community Meeting. A speaker basically said that we do not need to worry about a shortage of ibrutinib.

I wish I could remember all the specific details but my brain is mush. I just went to the CLL Society site to see if the webinar was taped. No luck. Perhaps later the information will be available.

One speaker recommended that if possible order medications at the earliest date for reordering which could potentially result in a little bit of stock piling of that prescription.

That speaker was Tom Henry a CLL patient and Registered Pharmcist.

Anyone interested can view a repeat of that next Friday April 3.
