My son just forwarded the following article to me. It's the second one that I've read (and posted here) about Protein Kinase Inhibitors being a new breakthrough in the treatment of blood cancers. The earlier one was a U. of Montreal study which found that one of them, a breast cancer treatment drug called Mubritinib, was effective against AML. This one proposes using them as part of a chemotherapy against all blood cancers, including CLL.
This one also explains how they work: They stop "the communication that takes place between cancer and stroma cells – effectively cutting the lifeline for cancer cells, and ideally enhancing the effects of cancer therapies."
I am not yet undergoing chemotherapy, so I've been eating anti-cancer foods to delay the time when I will need it. After reading the earlier article, I started eating EA (Ellagic Acid), a natural protein kinase inhibitor found in pomegranates (especially ground pomegranate seed), blackberries, raspberries and strawberries (including strawberry jam) -- I eat anardana (the Indian spice made by grinding pomegranate seed) in my morning oatmeal and my evening yogurt. (I eat turmeric, another anti-cancer Indian spice, with lunch and supper as it could interfere with EA if eaten at the same time.)
Here's the article:
