Dr Bita Fakhri is the top expert at UCSF — cutting edge researcher and excellent clinician. I’m early in my CLL journey but couldn’t be more pleased. Great bedside manner too. Where in Northern California are you?

Thank you. I live in Penn Valley, about 1.5 hours north of Sacramento in the Sierra foothills. And you?

Does this doctor take Medicare?

I’m sure Stanford takes Medicare. I’m sure the majority of Dr. Coutre’s patients are on Medicare.

I live in Citrus Heights 1/2 hour north of Sacramento I’ve got a great hematologist in Rocklin! I as well wanted to see a specialist. But the logistics for me I felt better to spend my time living instead of the travel with our lovely Bay Area traffic and everything along with it! If you need a second opinion I’d gladly give you my Hemotolgist’s name and number ! Stanford is the place to go!

Thank you. Please do give me his name just in case I need a second opinion. Have you heard anything about doctors at UC Davis?

916-409-1400 dr Gurvinder Shaheed mercy med group, hematologist oncologist. I could not be happier as he listens to my thoughts and concerns and gives me the time needed to discuss my thoughts and any issues I might have being a AD (almost Doctor). Hope this helps and there is the leukemia and lymphoma society here in Sac if you need anything else contact me on FB if you’d like

Please exchange names privately by pm. This is an open post so very unwise to give out your actual name on here. I would advise you to edit them out.

I know nothing about the logistics of travel in California but UCSD has both Dr Kipps and Dr Choi. I would travel hours to see either of them however Dr Coutre is exceptional as well from what I’ve heard too.

I’m not sure but being in California, I would assume that they do.

Yes, Dr. Kipps and Dr. Choi take Medicare. They are both wonderful and kept me alive for 20 years. Am now on Acalabutrinib with “spectacular” results as Dr. Kipps says.

All the best.

First and foremost see a CLL specialist not just an oncologist. You need an expert and there are few if any better than Susan O'Brien, now at Irvine, formally at MDA. SWA tickets are cheap.

I live in Humboldt County & drive 300 miles to Eugene, OR to see Dr. Sharman. I'm in his debulking trial of obinutuzumab/venetoclax. I prefer the drive there vs driving to the Bay Area.

Dr Tate Shannifeld (sp?) at Stanford is very good and a CLL expert.

Be well,

Hoffy

I'm also with Dr. Coutre at Stanford. I was told by my original Hematologist that he was the expert in the Bay Area.

I go to Dr. Choi at UCSD. He is wonderful. I fly to San Diego once a year to see him. If I have a question later, I send him a message and he gets right back to me.

Good luck.
