Should have known better than to chance things with my recent record !!

Both my grandkids went down with Chicken pox and rather than miss seeing them I carried on as normal (stupidity ruled my head) I am now back on Aciclovir to counteract a bout of Shingles,Can anyone please advise me on how to ease the discomfort, feel a bit of a fool if I'm honest, should've known better than to leave things to chance.

Kind Regards

John

Don’t beat yourself up. I’ve just had to make that decision myself and common sense prevailed only at the 11th hour after a chat with my specialist nurse. We are only human.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

All the advice suggests it’s not possible to get shingles from exposure to someone with chicken pox John but you can get chickenpox (particularly if you haven’t had it before). However, in the immunocompromised, the risk of a second chicken pox infection is greater.

I wonder is this link has definitely been established in your case because it goes against all the advice I’ve read.

Hope you feel better soon,

Yes, come to think of it, that’s my understanding. So might just be a coincidence. In my case The nurse said best to wait until scabs formed because it can be caught a second time. I’m almost bound to have had it once at my age I would think.

It’s advice I’d be personally nervous about because it may be scientifically sound but I’d still be on edge.

A couple of years ago a passenger had snook a child with obvious chicken pox onto the plane home and I was horrified when she touched me whilst passing the seat. Sometime you just can’t rationalise the fear because singles is so awful!
