Just started on a course of FCR 26 days ago I came out in a rash all over my body. It started a few days after my chemo. It is unbearable now and consultant says he has no idea why. Cannot start my next treatment due to this painful rash.

I have tried different antihistamines

HAs anyone else had this problem?

Yes, I had that problem. As it turned out it was a reaction to allopurinol.

If you are on it, which you might be, question it.

Once I stopped the allopurinol the rash went away and treatment continued.

Good luck!

As Dinasantos States it could be allopurinol. What chemotherapy are you on. do you also take Septrin (cotrixomole) antibiotic as it could be this also. It can also cause an all over body rash. Whatever cause is discovered I hope it soon clears and you start to feel better.

Best wishes.

Sue

During cycle 2 of FCR I developed a bad rash on my head, neck, chest and back. Bigger than spots. It was Septrin that caused the problem. This was discovered because the rash was worse soon after taking the tablet and eased off just before the next one. Easily fixed with taking Pentamidine via nebuliser just once a month.

Does your rash fade before some tablets?

I had the same thing with and extremely high temperature. Ended up in hospital for 3 days after my first cycle of R&B. It has not reoccurred on subsequent cycles even though I have been ill after everyone.

Hi. Yes! Apart from the horrible few days of nausea, my husband's other side effect was a nasty, itchy rash! He was covered from head to toe pretty much. Mostly arms, legs and back.

They also thought it might be one or two of the drugs like Allopurinol. It took quite a long time to clear and we got through bottles of Calamine lotion! It seemed to be worse at night!

Persevere, because he finished FCR nearly two years ago and feels great now and is back to playing football (at aged 60!)

We're thinking of you. Take care- you can do it!

I also had an appalling rash, mine due to antibiotic Septrin. Carried on with chemo plus prednisilone which sorted it out. Was horrid tho, good luck...

I also developed a severe head-to-toe rash after my 2nd cycle of FCR. My platelet count went from 20 to 650 in two weeks. I also developed thrush, which was very painful. Doc stopped the FCR and treated with Rituximab only for two months until Imbruvica was approved. Prescription hydrocordisone cream helped the rash a bit, but only time healed it.

YES!!!!! I had a rash my entire FCR treatment. At first, doctors thought it was the allopurinol, but then decided it was not. They wanted to put me on steroids, but my nutrophils were so low, I refused. Essentially, I just put up with it. I needed the chemo, and after 4 months and when the chemo was over (I just did 4 rounds) it stopped. I did use a prescribed powder, (Nystatin) , oatmeal baths, and every other thing I could think of. The itch was just awful, but I just put up with it. It is interesting (but not for you) to find someone else who had my issue. My doctors never did figure out the cause. I truly think it was the FCR.
