Will soon be participating in the flair trial so wanted to get this troublesome tooth out , to be honest should have had it out years ago but just carried on I have an irrational fear of dentists my achillies heel from childhood .......dentist said teeth were not in bad shape but the particular tooth really needed to come out ....so with my heart beating like wild horses ..the scraping sound and the two injections( the second hurt a touch )....into gums ...I thought wow it going to happen ....suddenly dentist stopped while checking gums before axtraction around tooth .....said there was a lot of blood ...thought it would be better to have it out at the hospital ( can be up to 6 months i was informed ) so if any problems with bleeding they can comfortable control any bleeding .....my heart sank my mouth sore and numb .....a strong temp filling was the final result .......wanted it all sorted before trial starts next month ...blood results December showed platelets 166 well with in normal limits...mind you WBC is 280,000 .....writing this with the gums throbbing a few hours after appointment

Stewie

Ps I took my lab results with me to show dentist

Hi cllady01

Did not get that far ..gums started bleeding before dentist was worried there may too much when the back tooth was taken ..big gaping hole .....seeing consultant next week but trial in 2 weeks they cannot hold it back because it's needs to be with in 2 months having the CT scan thats the criteria only just made trial due to delays in tests .....there seemed to be a bit of blood around the gums when I checked in dentist chair but not gushing out .....just emotionally tired worked up to it for a few days ..silly really it only the dentist x

I feel for you Stewie having got yourself psyched up for the procedure to have it cancelled at the last minute!

Is it possible you could be given a mild tranquilliser if you need to have it done by local to calm you down? Your dentist was obviously being mega cautious. Mine sent me to a Maxillofacial surgeon when I had a pain in my jaw. I think the CLL and possible bleeding/infection issues makes them nervous.

I hope you can get this resolved before the trial starts. Best wishes,

Newdawn

Thank you Newdawn

Might have to start trial with the temp filling will give research nurse a ring ...to be honest not enough time now to get it sorted by being taken out ....yes dentist was probably being over cautious but I suppose if there was a lot bleeding it would have been the right decision ...just so stressed not had a tooth out for 28 years lol at least I know what to half expect now lol

Stewie x

Yes it's frustrating, but at least your dentist is being cautious. With your platelets in the normal range, you shouldn't have problems and in any case I don't see how your high lymphocyte count could have any impact on your bleeding risk.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Neil the consultant did say once that the bleeding is increased a little when you get to the around 250 000 plus even if your platelet count is normal .not that I have any literature confirming this....but was not concerned about the trip to the dentist ..the dentist probably thought this might be safer in hospital when she observe the bleed in gums and thought twice x

Stewie - I hope your oncologist can push for an emergency procedure before the trial. It is better to have dental issues taken care of before treatment. If not that, make sure that the temporary filling is sufficient to get you through until dealing with removal of the tooth would be safe.
