A friend of the wifes who didnt previously about my condition mentioned rebounding when my wife spoke to her the other day. Its basically bouncing on a mini trampoline.Other than being good for you in the fact that its exercise its supposed to help the lymph system ??????

Hi Grizzlebear,

I recall reading this blog early after dx and it's quite inspirational (although the guy had acute leukaemia). Worth a read though I'm not qualified to personally recommend it. Plus, knowing my luck at the moment, I'd probably fall off and break a leg! Lol

An interesting question, and one where hype seems to be trumping fact.  Most of the advocates of rebounding are claiming to target lymphedema with the claim that the rebounding will create better circulation in the lymphatic system to "fix" it.   I wasn't able to find any strong sources to support that.  The closest the Mayo Clinic site came was to say that

"There's no cure for lymphedema. Treatment focuses on reducing the swelling and controlling the pain. Lymphedema treatments include:

Exercises. Light exercises in which you move your affected limb may encourage lymph fluid drainage and help prepare you for everyday tasks, such as carrying groceries. Exercises shouldn't be strenuous or tire you but should focus on gentle contraction of the muscles in your arm or leg. A certified lymphedema therapist can teach you exercises that may help"...  (mayoclinic.org/diseases-con...

My kids bugged me to buy one in the mid 1980s, they used it for about a month, then got bored with it... the rebounder sat around in the garage for a few years... I finally dragged it out to a yard sale...got $10 for it...

It never came back... so the rebounder never rebounded...  😝

Walking is probably more effective and likely less dangerous... I lost 125 lbs over about 18 months...

After my disastrous experience walking, my husband now considers it to be an extreme sport for me Chris! :-)

I have had lymphodema since I had Breast Cancer 15 years ago, when I had 30 or do lymph nodes taken out from under my arm, and believe me I have tried just about everything to try and get rid of the swelling. It's in My right arm and hand, looks horrible, gets really heavy, and the skin on my hand gets really tight,  specially in the hot weather.

I've tried exercise, compression sleeves on my arm and a glove, which didn't help, even went to the Hospital every day for 3 weeks, where they bandaged my arm and hand, to try and push the fluid up and into my body, but that didn't work either, tried massages but to no avail, I'm not sure anything will work.

I've just learned to live with it over the years, thought I'd had my brush with cancer, then I get Lymphoma,  what a lucky girl I am LoL.😕

Sending hugs Elle. That must be dreadfully uncomfortable for you at times.

Thanks Newdawn, yes it is, simple tasks, like washing the windows, everyday stuff takes that bit longer, as I need to stop at times cause my arm gets tired, wait a wee bit then go on with what I'm doing, it is frustrating.

Though on the plus side, I have the perfect excuse for not dusting or whatever as often as I should LoL.

Any vigorous exercise may temporarily boost your neutrophil count (something to be aware of when you have a blood test if you are neutropenic, because it can give you a false indication of how neutropenic you are).  The neutrophils are released from your spleen, which provides a white blood cell and platelet reservoir for emergency use, but if your bone marrow is struggling to make blood cells due to CLL infiltration, you aren't really changing anything.

Hi grizzlebear,

I have a rebounder which I jump on a few times a week - I love it! It's a great, easy way to exercise when I don't feel like doing much. You don't really feel like you're working out as such but you're getting your body moving! And less pressure on joints etc than jogging or speed walking on the footpath. I turn on the radio and dance/jump on my rebounder which definitely lifts the spirits every time and gets the blood (and lymph?) moving. Only ten mins a day of rebounding beats no exercise I say! I can heartily recommend it. Now I can't prove its helping my CLL! - I am more or less stable, stage 0 and have been since diagnosis a year and a half ago. But at the very least I do think it's getting me exercising when I would otherwise be slumped on the couch!

Rebounding is good for lymph nodes as well as doing weights to promote lymphatic circulation. Another words it promotes detoxification in your body.

I have been rebounding for a month and I love it.  I turn the music on an rebound for 10 min in the morning and evening.  I have been rebounding on a cheap one and just purchased a 300.00 one which will be coming in this week. Have a blessed day everyone.

I just started rebounding this week, my supplements had pretty much put an end to my joint pain, but if I over did or lay in the bed more than 4 hours at a time, i would be so stiff. The rebounding is taking away the stiffness at record speed. I love the way it wakes me up in the morning..I work nights and days, both 8 hour shifts and only get 4 hours of sleep twice a day, so feeling awake is good..I did start it to get the lymph system moving.

There was a great program on  catalyst ABC tv  last night regarding great results with  excercise when on chemotherapy and cancer.  Research from Curtin university here in Perth WA. It might be of interest. It did not mention blood cancers.
