US Congressman DeSaulnier has chosen to share his diagnosis and treatment for CLL with the public in stark contrast to our public figures who kept quiet during their life.
Good for him. And us.
For my take on this this news and links to his press release and related news articles, please take a look at my latest blog post bkoffman.blogspot.com
Good for him and long may his remission and mission to effect attitude to CLL remain strong. It is noticeable however that his disclosure seems to have been made following successful treatment. I absolutely understand why public figures and celebrities remain quiet because discrimination is rife and he seems to have waited until he was on firmer footing to disclose.
At the moment we have a professional footballer in the UK who found himself 'dropped' when he bravely revealed his cancer. Discrimination is rife so who could blame people for fighting the good fight without ignorant judgements? Attempting to affect societal attitude by disclosing can carry a heavy personal cost.
