antiperspirant is it good or bad?
Hi ballyhoo,
Your title suggests you're questioning some of the theories around cancer risks from using deodorants but your question seems to be for a deodorant recommendation
Do you have concerns about using deodorants for health reasons?
Newdawn
Hi Newdawn, yes I do . something very strange is going on with me right now yesterday I was so full of energy.Today nothing, Just hoping to get though the night. Bruised my backside sitting on the seat belt latch and now they're is a lump there . My body is totally shot , been going through some difficult times , the bump in my armpit might be an ant bight. sorry to change the subject, Bless you and all.
I wouldn't get too hung up about deodorant causes to be honest ballyhoo because what you're describing could be an enlarged lymph node in your armpit which unfortunately happens with CLL. However, if you've suffered a bite, it may have reacted and become infected. That would need checking out.
If you're having a bad time (and I suspect from what you say that it's not just physical), have a word with your doctor to check things out. Unfortunately we can have good or bad days with no sense of why but if you've hurt your bottom and it's bruised and swollen, it could be your platelets. CLL'ers can bruise much more easily if they are low.
Sending best wishes that things improve. There's been lots of theories about deodorants over the years mainly in relation to breast cancer but many think the link hasn't been established.
Newdawn
Thank you, yes you are right will be calling the Doctor on Monday. Hopefully it is nothing. Best wishes to you and all.
There was a concern about deodorant use and breast cancer a while back, but according to the article linked below, it was a hoax:

Given CLL is spread throughout our entire body (with the exception of our corneas) via our blood supply, it can concentrate pretty well anywhere, but that rarely happens outside of the lymphatic system (nodes, spleen, etc). As Newdawn noted, we often have enlarged nodes in our armpits and that's because there's so many nodes present there!

I doubt if deodorants have anything to do with your symptoms unless you have a local reaction from an allergy to the ingredients. However I am attempting to eat organic whole foods as much as possible, so for the same reasons I am attempting to use natural and organic products on my skin. Just as medications are delivered through the skin via patches containing a variety of medications including antihypertensives, hormone therapy, anti-inflammatories and pain medications, so too are the skin care products we apply topically, and I believe the ingredients should be as thoughtfully considered as are the ingredients in the foods we eat. There are many good sources of natural skin care products including Andalou Naturals and Nature's Gift. However you can make an excellent deodorant at home with just a few ingredients; coconut oil, arrowroot (or cornstarch), baking soda and a few drops of essential oil. I've tried many "natural" deodorants over the years because I don't like the list of ingredients I saw in commercial deodorants, however none seemed to work well. Then I tried making my own and couldn't believe the results! I'll never go back to commercial deodorants. If you want to try this you may want to google this for complete recipe directions and alternatives. I use about 4 oz coconut oil, about 1/4 cup each of arrowroot and baking soda, a few drops of clary sage and rosemary essential oils. You can use any essential oil that is safe for skin application. Just mix it all up and put in a small jar. Coconut oil melts at 76 degrees F, so may need to soften it a bit to mix it with the other ingredients. Some people are sensitive to baking soda and have to cut back or eliminate it. Other recipes call for shea butter which I have never tried since my current recipe works so well. Happy mixing!
"Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal" It's a non-aluminum, chlorohydrate based roll-on deodorant. Nothing has come close to offerring the kind of control this product does. It is hypoallergenic, paraben/PG free, fragrance free and cruelty free, according to the packaging. It that it isn't difficult to find--the local Wal-Mart carries it, although finding it on the shelf takes a while. Great, great product--definitely give it a go! Both my husband and myself use it.
Feel better, I had the same thing on my neck, it was a spider bite. Be sure to get it checked out. xxoo
