My GP took me off Diclofenac following serious cardiac warnings below; - he refuses to prescribe it to patients so this is interesting.

A family member has used Voltaren gel for several years for her severe RA and a good friend is using it for a torn rotator. Neither of them have had any difficulties. I wonder if the gel is less problematic? We have to take care with whatever medication we take. Thanks for your article. Sally
It does say that the gel formulation isn't included in the guidance Sally as it presumably doesn't have the systemic effects of ingested medication.
I actually found it to be very effective but my GP said he's been issued with guidance not to use it and will now only prescribe Naproxen.
I no longer take any because of risks to my kidneys. Inflammation pain is indeed bad but I'm more concerned about impact on the organs particularly cardiac function (I don't have history of heart problems). These NSAID's play havoc on the GI system too!
It will be interesting to see if this medication can be adapted in some way to impact on cancer however. I'm only pleased to see the researchers are trying!

Exciting possibility and worth exploring. Also taking on board what Newdawn said (particularly if there is a family history of heart or stroke problems)I think that most drugs come with some consequence and can heal one thing but cause another. When diagnosed I took myself off every tablet virtually that I was on as most had some tenous link to cancer if I looked hard enough. It's a case of weighing up the risks isn't it really?. These non steroid drugs carry a risk of heart problems and stroke but inflamation also has a huge effect on the body. As I've said before, my haematologist said that ''You must think of your body as a whole, the CLL is only part of it''. Thanks for posting the article.
