I know this has been asked before but I cannot find the answer. Has anyone been successful in claiming this allowance and if yes any tips would be helpful
Have good Christmas everyone.

Attendance Allowance is a very difficult benefit to claim - can you still claim it as I thought that it had been replaced by personal independance payment (PIP). I claimed on behalf of my father approximately 19 years ago. I answered the questions by looking back over the last week and if I had to do these tasks for my dad for more than half the week than that was the answer. I found it very distressing as it made me realise (even though I knew) just how ill my dad was, and the level of care he needed, but he did get attendance allowance. Good luck and take your time as the form is massive

My wife managed to get it for her mother, but it was a rather fraught process. If your having trouble perhaps you could speak to Macmillan's who I know give advice on these issues or maybe there's a local health charity that your Dr can put you in contact with to give your some help & advice.
I have been unfortunate enough to have had to deal with DWP for far too long ... if you think that you have a right to claim, then please do so .... they can only say no.
this is the short version of ygtgo tips ....
1. Get a claim form from the DWP.
2. Get in touch with your local Council Welfare unit - you will find them on your councils web page ... they know the ropes ... ask them to help you fill out the claim form.
3. On ... SEPERATE ... pieces of paper answer the questions in the claim form.
4. On ... SEPERATE ... pieces of paper state how your health affects your day to day living.
5. Take the blank claim form along with your paperwork of notes along to the Welfare office.
Anything that you are unsure about, the Welfare people will will be able to complete using your notes
Doing it this way makes sure that the form will be filled out correctly ... you supply the details, and let the Council fill out the forms.
I will send another message with more details ... but this message contains the simple steps to making a claim .... pour yersel a wee dram before reading your personal message ....
