normal value of vitD3: - CLL Support
normal value of vitD3
Highly controversial
A U.S. Institute of Medicine committee concluded that a serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D level of 20 ng/mL (50 nmol/L) is desirable for bone and overall health. The Dietary Reference Intakes for vitamin D are chosen with a margin of safety and 'overshoot' the targeted serum value to ensure that the specified levels of intake achieve the desired serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in almost all persons.

The NHS has many fact sheets but this looks like a good overview

Vitamin D deficiency is very common in the UK with an estimated 70 – 80 % of the
population being insufficient i.e. <50 nmol/L.
Low Vit D has been linked to Heart Disease and Diabetes . The Mayo clinic reported a possible link with low level Vit d3 and cll/SLL in 2011 and further works is being done. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Several people with CLL have reported improved energy levels when vit d3 were raised to normal levels >50nmol/L. This was my experience and levels are currently being maintained with supplements. So worth having this checked. Need to monitor levels if taking supplements as you can have too much of a good thing. Work with your doctor to ensure there are no conflicts with any other medication/ supplement being taken.
Here's some background on how normal vitamin D levels were determined and much more.

As the body self-regulates production of vitamin D via sun exposure, with some stored in fat, you cannot produce too much vitamin D by that means, but you CAN by taking a supplement. Given the increased risk CLL patients have of developing skin cancer, boosting a low level is best done by taking a supplement, but you should have it monitored until you get into the normal range.
