Has anyone used naproxen (Aleve) on a long ter... - CLL Support
Has anyone used naproxen (Aleve) on a long term basis to relieve night sweats and/or day sweats? Did your doctor recommend it?
CLL night sweats are very very specific... you wake up like you went swimming in your bed... TOTALLY drenched...
If your night sweats are not like that, they could have other causes.
However, if you have severe night sweats... it indicates you need to talk to your doctor about treatment for CLL...
If you have been previously treated, talk to your doctor because you may be having continuous low grade infections... they may cause night sweats as well...
There is currently a discussion on night sweats and Naproxen on the ACOR CLL list. You need to sign up to the CLL Digest at ACOR.org to take part. Some have had good results with Aleve but these are anecdotal.
I take Naproxen for osteoarthritis and wasn't aware that they were used to alleviate night sweats. Interestingly, a quick scan of the net shows studies and discussions where users of the drug suggest Naproxen (Aleve) may actually cause night sweats.
I'd take Chris's advice and check it out further with your doctor because dependent on the severity of your night sweats, there may be other avenues to explore.

I'm a member if the ACOR CLL List and I first learned about Naproxen's use to alleviate night sweats from CLL patients whose doctors recommended it. Two years ago I went through chemo to treat various CLL symptoms including night sweats. Unfortunately, the sweating is returning slowly but surely. I am now on watch and wait as far as my CLL goes. But Naproxen really works well to reduce and/or prevent CLL related night sweats. I'm just want to hear about anybody else's long term use of Naproxen - is it safe?
