Red wine may contain Resveratrol.. it has been studied to have some effect in CLL.

Talk to your doctor..

I have found cutting out alcohol and carbohydrate my symptoms are minimal,I have had CLL for 5 years now. I pray every day too.

Thanks, I was just recently diagnosed and actually haven't been to my new doctor to ask all my questions.

From my research, moderate alcohol drinking (1-2 glasses of wine or equivalent a day) is not contraindicated in CLL, although I'm abstaining now while I am taking FCR as I don't want to overburden my liver. I was not warned against it by my medical team, but I want to be cautious.

As I am not requiring any treatment, I continue to have a glass of wine with my lunchtime dinner most days.

Its one of my pleasures in life, but I will not hesitate to stop it, if my ALC starts increasing at a faster rate. Were I in treatment like Kaymack I certainly would not take alcohol.

Guess this is a personal decision we each have to make for ourselves.

I too enjoy an occassional glass of red. I will say that my consultant did tell me that on FCR an odd half glass of wine if I was feeling well would do no harm at all. Must admit though the odd sip I had tasted horrible! Also I just didn't even fancy it. Now FCR all finished and wine tastes nice again I've gone back to having an odd glass - again as you said Bub it's a personal decision that I made and has helped me feel 'like life is getting back to normal'.

Just noticed that all the above replies are from wine drinkers...?

Beer is acceptable also, and I always have a beer ( or two ) with my evening meal...

While red wine and beer are proven to be of some help.. they both contain alcohol and they can cause unnecessary heart flutters ( PVC AND PAC) fish61

A little is great.....and an occasional G&T and a good Scottish whisky could be added to beer and wine!

Tonic water can mess with platelet clumping....but you would have to consume a lot... maybe a martini?

Hi

I drink a glass of red most days and as I am drinking little I buy quality French, Margeaux or Pomerol. I am six weeks into Ibrutinib and drink with the knowledge of my consultant ( and approval). During my eight years of watch and wait I tried not drinking for six months at a time and everythink in between but it made no difference to my progression, sometimes up sometimes down but always up at the end of each year so my conclusion is that it makes no difference if taken in moderation and if so why wreck your quality of life, after all we have a lot to put up with.
